October 26th is 9 days away and so far I have not received any information on any scheduled Nikon press events for next week. It will be highly unusual for Nikon to announce the D800 without any major press gathering – maybe they have chosen this path to prevent any leaks.

65 million Nikkor lenses produced

Today Nikon announced that as of the beginning of October 2011 they have produced a total of 65 million Nikkor lenses (as of April 2011 that number was 60 million):

TOKYO – Nikon Corporation is pleased to announce that total production of NIKKOR interchangeable lenses for Nikon SLR cameras reached sixty-five million at the beginning of October 2011.

The new Nikon rebates (US)

The current Nikon instant rebates on the D7000, 5100 and 3100 will probably be extended till November 19th. The rebate program after November 19th will depend on the situation in Thailand.

Here are the details on the new Nikon instant rebates that will start on October 16th and will end on November 19th, 2011. Keep in mind that even with the new rebates, you will be paying full price starting this Sunday:

Nikon has announced a new Unilateral Pricing Policy on many cameras and lenses for the entire retail market. This should clean up the marketplace from discounting and non-authorized sellers. We are FULLY supportive of this program.

More rumors on the two upcoming Nikon lenses

More info regarding the new Nikon lenses that might be announced with the D800:

  • The new DX lens will be replacing one of the current superzooms (not a pro-level lens).
  • The FX lens will be an update to one of the current AF-D prime lenses and probably will not be wide angle. If this is correct, the new lens should replace one of the following (see all 74 current Nikkor lenses here):

[NR] probability rating: 60%, just not enough information in order to bump the probability.
