Sony-32GB-G-Series-XQD-Format-Version-2-Memory-CardSony-XQD-reader
I received a tip that the first Nikon D5 shipment will come with a Sony 32GB G-Series XQD memory card ($109.95) and a Sony XQD reader ($37.95) included for free, just like the D4 did four years ago. My understanding is that this will be valid for all worldwide shipments and is not specific to a region.

The new line of Sony XQD memory cards will be available at the end of May are now available.

UK dealers have confirmed that the D5 will start shipping around March 18th.

The upcoming Nikon compact cameras will have a 2,350k dots optional OLED EVF

nikon-adjustable-evf-patent

I already mentioned that the upcoming Nikon compact cameras with fixed lens and 1″ sensor will have an optional EVF that will attach to the hot shoe. I received some more details on the EVF: it will be a 2,350k dots OLED EVF. For comparison, two of the best EVF I’ve seen so far are 4.4MP (Leica SL) and 3.68MP (Leica Q).

Picture: adjustable EVF Nikon patent from 2011.

Nikon AF-S Nikkor 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR lens review

Kingfisher-with-cricket kingfisher-with-centipede
Nikon AF-S Nikkor 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR lens review by Mohammed Ahmedullah:

I am a writer-photographer based in India and contribute articles to local travel magazines and newspapers on wildlife. I recently bought a Nikon 200-500 F5.6 lens and used it for an assignment on bird photography. Below are my observations:

Ergonomics: The 200-500 F5.6 balances well on my Nikon D800 camera. You can use the tripod mount as a grip while walking. I usually place the camera in front and the lens at the rear so that the lens does not get scratched against thorny bushes. The weight of the lens plus camera is around 3 kilos but the perfect weight distribution in front and rear of the tripod collar/handgrip feels like a lot less. I have walked for 4-5 hours in the jungle with this combination.
