BCN Ranking published 2020 Japanese camera market share report

BCN Ranking released their 2020 Japanese camera market share report (not worldwide!). BCN Ranking collects real sales data only from approximately 40% of the Japanese retailers. The Nikon related numbers:

  • Nikon point and shoot camera share went down (no longer in the top three, was #1 last year)
  • Nikon DSLR camera share went up by more than 5% (still at #2 spot)
  • Nikon is still not in top 3 mirrorless cameras in Japan (I think this will change next year as Olympus fades away)

Here are the 2020 numbers for the different camera categories compared with the 2019 BCN ranking that can be found here:

→ A reader send me a quick feedback on the new Viltrox 85mm f/1.8 Z full-frame autofocus lens for Nikon Z-mount (buy at: Amazon USAmazon UKAmazon CA):

“Got my Viltrox 85/1.8 for Nikon Z cameras. I tested it on my Nikon Z6 II and it works fine. Tested it agains my Tamron 85/1.8 VC with the FTZ adapter. The Tamron hunts but is fast. The Viltrox doesn’t hunt but is some times slower. The Tamron had sometimes hard to nail the focus but the Viltrox nailed it every time. The area of sharpness seemed to be narrower with the Viltrox at 1.8. Will continue to do test and see if I will sell the Tamron.”
