Nikon instant rebates now available online

Update: a rebate program is also scheduled in Romania.

A follow up on my previous post about the upcoming Nikon rebates: Adorama has already listed the different DSLR + lens combos on their website. Make sure you check the prices again before you buy, some combos may not be updated yet. This is suppose to be an instant saving deal – no need to mail-in rebates. Here are some examples – click on a link to see the total price:

…and so on… basically just go to Adorama and search for the DSLR model you are interested in and you will see all available combos (the listings are easy to spot because they do not have a product image). Not sure why FX body and DX lens combos are also available 🙂

There will also be new Nikon rebates in Australia: for example the D90 will have a $200 cash back from 01/03/2010, the D5000 will have $100 cash back. The program will end on March 31st (source).

Interview with Nikon @ PMA 2010

Interview with Nikon @ PMA 2010 – the interview is very long, nothing really interesting in terms of future products except this quote from David Lee (President of Nikon Inc.) when they talked about cameras size:

“…unless you put a pancake lens on it, and then all of a sudden you’re back to… a digital rangefinder, if you will. So I think it’s something that’s very interesting, and I think if there’s some technical leaps going forward, there’s a possibility that that could be another category, but at this point in time we’re listening to what the consumers are saying right now…”

Just two more related quotes from previous interviews with Nikon executives:

“We plan to surprise the market” – from an interview with Hiroshi Takashima (General Manger of Imaging Division at Nikon)

On Micro 4/3 & Nikon: “If we follow this type of equipment, we change our frame (mount). The new frame will provide new opportunities or provide access to new technologies and to use targets smaller and lighter” – from an interview with Tetsuro Goto (Director of Laboratory Research and Development at Nikon).

Card #6 is out, no longer a mystery

The good news is that this appears to be a Nikon campaign, the bad news is that it could be Coolpix related.

This is an ad from a UK newspaper with same “I am …” slogan:

The colors on the cards look similar to the different Coolpix colors:

Since there won’t be any Coolpix announcement until August, the information I received points that this countdown is for a new Web 2.0 website (read on Wikipedia about Web 2.0).

Countdown mystery in black and yellow

This started yesterday and I did not think it was important enough to post it here (however, I did write about it on twitter and facebook). Today things got more interesting.

What do we have? Multiple reports came from France (in English) about a glossy mailing card that only had the number 8 on the front and the text “I am…” on the back:

Today things got even better (in English): a second card was mailed out with the number 7 on the front and the text “I am fun” on the back.

The word “Nikon” is not present anywhere on those mailings, the only link to Nikon are the black and yellow colors. It seems that only Nikon users are receiving those mailings (not confirmed yet). The blogger speculates that this may be the new Nikon EVIL (my information was that we should expect it for Photokina).

Now the best part: if you take week days only, the #1 card should be sent out next week on March 5, 2010 (Friday). Guess what? On Monday, March 8th, 2010 Nikon has scheduled a “Press Morning” in the UK!

Hey, it could be a coincidence of course, but I like coincidences!

New Nikon rebates program starting in 3 days (US only)

Update: the rebate program will end on March 27th, 2010. The Nikon 70-300mm lens is also included with a $200.00 instant rebate.

On February 28th, 2010 Nikon will start a nice instant rebate program on the following lenses: Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 VRII,  Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8, Nikon 18-200mm VRII and the 24-120mm.

  • Buy the 70-200mm with any SLR and get $400.00 instant rebate
  • Buy the 24-70mm with any SLR and get $300 instant rebate
  • Buy the 18-200mm VRII with any SLR and get $250.00 instant rebate
  • Buy the 24-120mm with any SLR and get $200.00 instant rebate

There will be some other instant rebates for p&s Camera as well.

I assume that there will be a list of compatible SLR for that offer (I don’t think those rebates will be valid for the D3000 for example).

Nikon “Press Morning” on March 8th, 2010

Focus of Imaging show will take take place from March 7-10th, 2010 in Birmingham, UK.

Nikon will be present at the show. Their schedule of events can be found here or here. Of specific interest are the two “PRESS MORNING” (why the CAPS?) slots from 10:45 and 11:45 on Monday morning, March 8th, 2010. Both are “by invitation only” which is a good sign:

This could be a regular press event without an actual announcement, just like the one we had @ PMA and am I going to be very pessimistic this time, unless I receive information that similar events are scheduled in different countries on the same date, then we will have a BINGO! Stay tuned for that.

Just a reminder that last year Nikon France did leak the text “Presenting new DSLR” as a part of their schedule for Paris Expo (see spy shots of the Nikon booth here). The Nikon D3s was announced the same day (October 14/15, 2009).

Update#1: I was asked if Nikon ever announced a new product on Monday and the answer is yes: the Nikkor AF-S 50mmm f/1.4G lens was announced on September 22nd, 2008 which was a Monday and so was the Nikkor AF-S 35mm f/1.8G DX on February 9th, 2009.

Update#2: Interesting: Pentax and Panasonic are also expected to have announcements in that week (March 8-12, 2010).
