I am Nikon dot com

If you go to iamnikon.com you will get a blank page, but if you go to iamnikon.com/images you will get a redirect to europe-nikon.com. Nikon is definitely preparing a new website. The question is whether there will be a real product behind the marketing campaign in France and the “Press Morning” in the UK or just a new website.

The same “I am Nikon” web site exists also in German language ichbinnikon.at and ichbinnikon.at/images also redirects to europe-nikon.com.

If you Google “I am Nikon” you will see few more redirects.

Flickr also has a group called IamNikon which is private for now – maybe the new site will have something to do with Flickr?

IamNikon.com domain name is registered to Key-Systems which seems to be a regular domain reseller.

IchbinNikon.at domain name is registered to an advertising agency in Germany called JVM and of course Nikon is one of their clients (in English).

The news about Nikon working on a G11 killer may or may not be related with the current ongoing marketing campaign and this new website from Nikon.

As of today, I have not received any information about upcoming Nikon products.

“Nikon prepares for PowerShot G11 battle” (Nikon Coolpix P7000?)

The phrase “Nikon prepares for PowerShot G11 battle” comes from the latest issue of AmateurPhotographer that is out today. In the last few hours I was trying to find somebody that could tell me more about this article. Sorry about the delay.

Nikon’s UK Senior Product Manager Kevin Egan told AP that Nikon planned to release a Canon G11 competitor with the last batch of Coolpix cameras, but the camera was not ready. The model in question will contain DLSR technology in a “high-end Coolpix compact camera” body. No release date was mentioned.

This news, together with the upcoming “Press Morning” and the current countdown in France makes me think that we may see a Nikon Coolpix P7000 on Monday, March 8th. Also the magical number 8 from the countdown: there were suppose to be a total of 8 Coolpix cameras. Only 7 models were released last month. One is still missing.

And just two more references related to this topic: in this interview Johan Kling (head of Nikon Sweden) said that Canon’s advantages (1080p video in DSLR and G11) will end soon. The Nikon Coolpix P6000 has been discontinued since August 2009. The Canon PowerShot G11 currently sells for less than $500.

For the record: I have not received a single tip about a potential Nikon Coolpix P7000 camera release.

Nikon rebates are now online

Update #4: I got some direct links for B&H (add to cart to see final price):

Nikkor 70-200 f/2.8 VRII:

Nikkor 24-70 f/2.8:

Nikkor 24-120 f/3.5-5.6 VR:

Nikkor 18-200 DX VRII:

Update #3: Adorama now also has the rebates online:

Nikon D3000 combos:

Nikon D5000 combos:

Nikon D90 combos:

Nikon D300s combos:

Nikon D700 combos:

Nikon D3s combos:

Nikon D3x combos:

Update #2: I received some information that Amazon will not be supporting those rebates which could explain why they haven’t updated their site yet. OneCall.com seems to have some of the rebates listed.

Update #1: as far as I know only B&H has the rebates online for now. My understanding is that multiple lens rebates cannot be combined with the purchase of one DSLR body (I am waiting for the official confirmation from B&H). Many readers could not get to the list of available kits – you have to follow the links listed below for the different DSLR models and then click on the red “View available kits” link under the camera picture:

The previously rumored Nikon rebates are now live @ B&H. This is how you can get to them: click on each of the models from the list below and then navigate to the “available kits” link for all the possible options. You must add to cart to see the final price after the instant rebate (this is not a mail-in rebate):

It seems that the previously listed Adorama combos do not have he rebates applied yet. Could not find anything on Amazon either, so for now B&H is your best bet.

Nikon related news/links

  • It seems that the Nikon D3s is hard to get: Adorama, B&H and Amazon are all out of stock. If you need one Ace Photo currently has 3 in stock.

The big question is whether the price adjustment at Adorama, B&H and Amazon will be based on their current prices or on the MSRP.

Also you can mix and match lenses and one body: “purchase all three lenses with a qualifying camera and save $950.”

  • Nikon Coolpix S220 tops European sales charts.

Update on the latest Nikon D400 book listing

This the response from the publisher regarding the latest Nikon D400 book listing:

“Wir hatten aus einer in der Regel sehr zuverlässigen Quelle die Information, dass Nikon demnächst eine Kamera mit dem Modellnamen D400 ankündigen wird. Dementsprechend hatten wir ein Buch dazu bereits fest eingeplant. Bislang hat sich das leider nicht bewahrheitet und uns liegen keine neueren Infos darüber vor, ob und wann Nikon eine Kamera diese Namens herausbringen wird.”

Google translation:

“We had a usually very reliable source of information that Nikon will soon announce a camera with the model name D400. Accordingly, we had a book about this already scheduled. So far, unfortunately this is not true and we are no recent information on whether and when Nikon will release a camera that name.”

The author and photographer Klaus Kindermann did not know anything about this book – it seems that the publishing company created the entry without this knowledge.

Thanks to all readers in Germany who helped me on this topic.
