Two more Nikon announcements in September

There were many Nikon press events all over the world today and I was able to gather some new information. There will probably be two more Nikon announcements in September. There must be a reason why some Nikon employees vacation was blocked for the end of August. The first one will be DSLR related and will probably be in the first week of September. This may not be a new product but rather a refresh of an existing model. The second one will be for the new mirrorless camera (with 4 lenses). I was told that those mirrorless camera mockups are a very close to the real thing. No word on new DSLR lenses.

For now set your expectations low and remember: no leaks = no announcement, and I don’t care what happened with the 40mm macro lens.

Nikon Coolpix P7100 samples and promo videos

Update: some more P7100 hands-on from Pocket-lint and a new photo gallery from dpreview. Also, Fantasea announced plans to produce an underwater housing for the P7100.

Nikon published some images and video samples taken with the new Nikon Coolpix P7100. I did not see much coverage from the different press events across the world except this report from Tokyo. I also find it unusual that except dpreview nobody else got a hands-on preview on this camera.

There is definitely another Nikon announcement on the way

Another Nikon announcement is definitely coming in the next few weeks. I do not have the exact date yet. Nikon will also release their mirrorless interchangeable lens camera in the next few weeks. I am not sure if the next announcement will be only about the mirrorless solution or it will include DSLR as well.

Few more Coolpix details

Some last minute updates on the upcoming Coolpix cameras:

  • Nikon Coolpix P7100 will have a 4 way VR (previous model had 5 way VR). Continuous shooting speed: 1.2 fps. AF speed: 0.16, shooting time lag: 0.22. Overall increase of camera’s responsiveness. New special effect: defocus during exposure, zoom exposure, cross process and creative monochrome. Zoom memory function. Built-in ND filter will have 3 stops reduction of shutter speed.
  • Nikon Coolpix S1200pj camera will let you upload video to YouTube via iPhone with cable connection. The projector will be brighter than its predecessor (up to 60 in. display).
  • Nikon Coolpix S8200 will have 16MP and 14x zoom starting at 25mm, ability to record images during video.
All new Coolpix cameras will be available for sale in September.
