You can already see the new Nikon pricing policy in action at B&H

Amazon price: $2,159.96

B&H price: $2,399.95

Since B&H will be closed till the weekend, it seems that they already updated their prices according to the new Nikon policy. You can get a feeling of the new prices on their website. Here are few examples:

Amazon and Adorama still have the old prices but this will all change on October 16th. If you have planned to buy a lens, now would be a good time to pull the trigger and save few $.

Just a reminder that there will be a new Nikon instant rebate program starting on the 16th (you will need to purchase a Nikon body in order to qualify and the D700 and D3s will probably be out of stock).

Nikon’s financial results may be impacted by the flooding in Thailand

Nikon factory in Thailand before the flooding

after the flooding

Nikon stock price dropped 3.5% as a result of the flooding in Thailand. Nikon may experience some serious financial losses if their Thailand plant stays closed for over a month:

“Nikon’s inventory of SLR cameras will probably last for about a month and the effect on earnings would be negligible should the company resume the plant’s operation within a month, Hisashi Moriyama, a JPMorgan analyst in Tokyo, said in a report dated yesterday. Suspensions lasting two months could cut Nikon’s revenue by 30 billion yen and operating profit by 5 billion yen to 10 billion yen, he said.”

A possible scenario for the “other three products” expected to be announced with the Nikon D800

Here is a possible scenario for the other three products that are expected to be announced alongside the D800, probably on October 26th.

  • Nikon SB-910 speedlight, the replacement of the SB-900 (see this and this related posts)
  • DX lensprobably a consumer lens. One tipster actually mentioned a new wide angle DX lens, which would be great for all DX users. Another source mentioned just an update of an existing lens. The DX lens may be announced separately from the remaining products.
  • FX lens – no idea about the FX lens, most probably will be an update of an existing lens. My personal guess would be for a new 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6, 300mm f/4 or a 70-200mm f/4 (just my guess people, don’t quote me on that)
