The new Nikon instant rebates for September now include 30 different lenses

Nikon-rebates
Nikon-instant-rebates-September-2013
The new Nikon US instant rebates for September are now live and include 30 different lenses, 2 Speedlights and 2 teleconverters (only 8 lenses and 2 flashes were available in previous months). Nikon basically doesn’t have any new products and is trying to generate additional revenue by aggressive promotions. In order to qualify, you still have to purchase one of the nine current Nikon DSLR cameras. The rebates are stackable which means that you can buy multiple lenses with one body and still qualify for the savings. If you get few of the high-end lenses, the camera will basically come for free (depending on the model):

For a full list of qualifying products, check this link. The rebates will expire on September 28th.

The current Nikon rebates end on August 31st, extension is very likely to include more lenses

Nikon-instant-rebates

The current Nikon US instant rebates will end on Saturday, August 31st. Given the lack of new product announcements, I expect that the rebate program will be extended and will be more aggressive – it will include a wider range of products (lenses) in order for Nikon to generate some additional sales for this quarter. Check back NikonRumors on Saturday after midnight for the new September savings on Nikon gear.

Rumor: Nikon preparing to announce new D5300 and D610 DSLR cameras

Nikon-D5300-logo

Nikon-D610-logo

The latest rumors are that Nikon will release new D5300 and D610 DSLR cameras. I am still working on the details, but such announcement will be within the new company strategy to concentrate on entry level DSLR models. The D5300 will most likely be a marginal improvement over the D5200, maybe with built-in Wi-Fi and GPS functionality (just a speculation). The D610 is the more interesting development. I think the main reason behind the D610 is not so much to introduce new functionality as to kill once and for all the D600 sensor oil issue that prevented many people from buying it. Think of it like the SB-910 flash release – it did not have any major new features, it just fixed the overheating issue of the SB-900. This explains also the recent massive discounts on refurbished D600 cameras.
