Few readers emailed me that they do not see any dust/oil spots on their new D610 cameras that already started shipping yesterday and is currently in stock. Nasim Mansurov got over 10,0000 actuation on his camera and also did not see any issues. This should not be a surprise since the only reason the D610 was released was to address the dust/oil spots reported by many D600 users.
Those rendering are from the rumored Vivo smart phone that will feature rotating Nikon-branded camera and EXPEED processor (via Phonearena).
The next Nexus 5 phone is also rumored to have a Nikon camera module inside.
With the shrinking compact camera market, Nikon is obviously trying to position themselves as a camera technology supplier to the fast growing smart phone industry.

With the D5300 announcement, Nikon also introduced a new zoom/focus assist lever called NAL-1 “that enables smoother zooming and focusing when attached to the zoom ring or focus ring on a NIKKOR lens“. Pricing and availability are not yet announced.

Right on time with the DxOmark test report release, the Nikon D610 is currently in stock at B&H and Amazon. I already mentioned that the D610 does qualify for the latest Nikon instant rebates (follow the “Buy Together & Save” link on the product listing page). In addition, B&H currently offers free SanDisk 16GB memory card, Watson EN-EL15 Lithium-Ion battery and Ruggard Commando 36 DSLR shoulder bag with 4% in rewards and free shipping with every camera body purchase.

DxOMark released their test results for the Nikon D610 cameras. Here is their conclusion:
“Although we can’t comment on whether the D610 addresses the issue of dust and oil deposits found on the original model, the new camera has some improved features, including a new shutter mechanism, which sounds promising. Along with that, the D610 offers all the performance of the original D600. While the original is available discounted at $1699, saving around $300 on the body of the D610, the new model is still excellent value when compared to rival offerings.”
Next is the D610 compared to the D6o0, Canon 6D and Sony a99 cameras:
