New Z-mount adapters

Kipon announced the first Speedbooster focal reducer adapter (BAVEYES N/G-N/Z 50 0.7) exclusively designed for the Nikon Z50 (for attaching Nikon G lenses to Nikon Z50 cameras):

  • Kipon BAVEYES N/G-N/Z50 0.7 adapter is designed for the Nikon Z50 camera, allowing Nikon G mount lenses to be mounted onto Nikon Z50 camera bodies. The 0.7x optic adapter gets rid of crop factor, and increases the aperture.
  • With KIPON BAVEYES N/G-N/Z50 0.7 adapter, although the lens will fit physically, automatic diaphragm, auto-focusing, and other functions will not work, only manual model will be available.

The new Fringer EF-NZ adapter is now available for purchase at Amazon (for adapting EF/EF-S lenses from Canon, Sigma, Tamron and other third parties to Nikon Z cameras).

Nikon announcement confirmed for next week: D780, 120-300mm f/2.8E, Z 70-200mm f/2.8 and Coolpix P950

Nokishita just confirmed what I already reported – next week Nikon will announce two new cameras and two lenses:

The surprise here is the Nikon Coolpix P950 – probably a cheaper version of the popular Coolpix P1000 model.

Updated: Nikon D780 updated/rumored specifications (January 7th announcement, around $2,000 price tag)

Here are the Nikon D780 updated/rumored specifications:

  • 24MP BSI improved sensor
  • Articulated TFT LCD tilting touchscreen, 3.2″ with 2,100,000 dots
  • Significantly improved processor (compared to the D750)
  • Improved fps RAW shooting
  • Video: 3840×2160 24p-30p, 1920×1080 24p-120p
  • Really good AF for video
  • Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
  • No built-in flash
  • Higher ISO (better than the D850)
  • Dual SD UHSII card slots
  • Between 51 and 153 AF points – I was told most likely 105 AF points
  • An updated interface like the Z-series
  • Slightly smaller and lighter body than the current D750
  • Nikon EN-EL15b battery (used also in the Z7, Z6, D850, D750 and other Nikon cameras)
  • Official announcement expected in the first half of January – the unconfirmed date I have is January 7th, the start day of CES (±1 day)
  • Price: between $1,999-$2,199

Updates:

  • In “classic” VF mode the camera will sport the same 51-point AF system as seen on other cameras (D750, D850), while in LV mode, the number of AF points will equal numbers from the Z 6 (273 points).
  • The Nikon D780 doesn’t have a new AF module or new AF system, there are just some EV sensibility improvements.
  • The Nikon D780 camera will have NO built-in flash and, like the D7500, no battery grip compatibility/pins (cost-cutting)

Nikon D6 updated/rumored specifications (D6 could be 20MP and not 24MP as previously reported)

Here are the Nikon D6 updated/rumored specifications:

  • 2oMP sensor, not 24MP as previous reported (still not 100% sure)
  • 14 fps in normal shutter mode (the D5 could do 12 fps)
  • Improved/better AF system but probably with the same number of AF points
  • The Nikon D6 AF improvements are crucial and comparable to the Sony A9II
  • The D6 built-in sensor stabilization (IBIS) will be an improved version from the Nikon Z system
  • The D6 will have more features and customization options for various aspects of the camera and settings
  • Companion applications will also see improvements but they will most likely launch after the camera release
  • The D6 will definitely not be a “hybrid” camera, but rather a DSLR with some mirrorless features (better video, IBIS, silent shooting for example)
  • 4K 60 video
  • Improved dynamic range
  • Advanced video features with RAW recording (not sure if external or internal)
  • Longer manual exposure times (like in the Nikon D810A): from 1/8000 – 120 seconds (up from 30 seconds)
  • Dual CFExpress memory card slots
  • .76-78x 100% viewfinder
  • New Expeed dual processors
  • Built-in Wi-Fi
  • 3.2 million dots touchscreen
  • Improved silent shooting modes
  • Official announcement expected in mid-February (around February 12, 2020 ±1-2 days)
