Sad news: the legendary Nikon AF-S Nikkor 200mm f/2G ED VR II lens is now discontinued

The legendary Nikon AF-S Nikkor 200mm f/2G ED VR II lens is now marked as discontinued on the official Nikon Japan website:

The Nikon AF-S Nikkor 200mm f/2G ED VR II lens is currently in stock in the US at AdoramaB&H, and Amazon and sells for $5,696.95. A refurbished version is available for $4,395. The lens was announced 10 years ago (on October 1, 2010) and when I had the chance to try the lens, I was impressed how sharp it was, and it is still considered one of the sharpest Nikon lenses ever made (see this post):

Last year a Nikon promo video mentioned a non-existing Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 200mm f/2E FL ED VR lens, so there is still hope for an F-mount replacement. I am also curious to see the Z-mount version of this lens (not on the roadmap so far).
