After Nikon did the research, Kodak announced Aromatography

In the last Nikon links section I posted the results of an international study commissioned by Nikon: “47% of Britons can remember the scent associated with the photograph” (see original article at DailyMail dated March 24th).

Today Kodak made it official: they announced Aromatography, a breakthrough in digital image processing.

See the details at the official kodak.com website:

Another Nikon SB-600 being discontinued story

CompUSA currently doesn’t have the Nikon SB-600 listed on their website. I called them up and the SB-600 is not listed in their inventory system. On the phone they could not confirm whether the SB-600 is discontinued or they just dropped it from their catalog. Here is a live support chat session that I found online, indicating that the SB-600 is discontinued at CompUSA (see similar story from Staples here):

Please wait while we find an agent to assist you…
You have been connected to J***** J******.
J***** J******: Thank you for contacting us today, how may I assist you?
Me: Hi J*****, I’m looking at the Nikon SB-600 flash right now.
Me: It appears that it is “unavailable”
Me: Do you have any idea on the status of the object?
Me: Is CompUSA just out of stock, or has it been discontinued?
J***** J******: Let me check on that for you. Please give me a minute or two.
Me: Great, thanks.
J***** J******: Thank you for waiting. With regard to your inquiry unfortunately it seems the item has been discontinued. We do not have any information on the future availability of this item on the CompUSA site.
Me: Hmm, okay. Thanks so much for the information, J*****!
J***** J******: Have a great day, and thanks for providing us with the opportunity to assist you today!

Nikon USA has suspended all product deliveries for 10 days

Nikon USA has suspended all product deliveries to dealers for the next 10 days because of their yearly inventory count (March 31 is the end of the fiscal year for Nikon). This will also explain why the new 24mm f/1.4 lens was available in very limited quantities in the US (it was suppose to be released at the end of March). Expect many out of stock products to be available after this inventory count is over.

Nikon rebates updated and extended till May 1st

Update: The new Nikon rebates are restricted to either the D300s or D700. Same with the SB-900 – in order to get the $100 rebate on the flash you must buy either a D300s or D700. I will have the full details next week (Adorama and B&H are close for a week).

I just got a confirmation that the Nikon rebate program is now extended till May 1st, 2010 (US only). Nikon SB-900 flash will also be included with a $100.00 instant rebate. My source also said that a new $300 rebate will be introduced with the new 16-35mm f/4 lens when purchased with the D700. Some new limitation on the rebate program will be introduced.

I will have the full details later today.
