Is this the new Nikon EVIL camera? *updated*

This camera was displayed at the Nikon Sapporo Showroom and the picture was just posted on DCHome forum. Is this the new mirrorless interchangeable lens camera from Nikon? The lens appears to be a 18-55mm. There is a also another gadget on the back – maybe a small Flip-like video cam (Nikon had few patents in the past for a similar camera).

Update: Nikkeibp has a picture of the same white Nikon camera on their website dated from February 18, 2009:

This concept model is not new. The reason we haven’t seen it before is because taking pictures in the Nikon Sapporo Showroom is not allowed.

Rumors from Japan: new Nikkor AF-S 50mm f/1.2G and 28mm f/1.4G lenses in development

The Japanese site digicame-info.com reported a rumor few days ago that Nikon is currently working on new AF-S 50mm f/1.2G and 28mm f/1.4G lenses that will be released in the near future. I received similar tips at the beginning of the year about the 50mm f/1.2G lens and Nikon even filed a patent for it:

Nikon 50mm f/1.2G lens patent

The 28mm f/1.4G is news to me. This brings the question how reliable is digicame-info website when it comes to reporting rumors? Few days ago they correctly reported on the upcoming Olympus E-PL1s camera. A new 28mm f/1.4G will be too close to the already announced 24 f/1.4 and 35mm f/1.4 lenses. Nikon already produced a Nikon 28mm f/1.4D AF lens in the past that was very popular and is still available for $3000-4000 on eBay (update: completed sells indicate a price range between 2000-3000$ for that lens).

The site mentions also a new 80-400mm lens – I believe this will be the next full frame lens to be released by Nikon.

The price of the Nikkor AF-S 50mm f/1.2G is reported to be around 350,000 Yen (aprox. USD 4,200) which is a bit high IMHO (FYI: Canon’s EF 50mm f/1.2L lens costs around USD 1,300).

The first Nikkor 35mm f/1.4G ships in Canada *updated*

Update: (11/18/2011): I just got a report that few Nikon 35mm f/1.4G lenses were shipped through NPS today in the US and France.

Nikkor AF-S 35mm f/1.4G N

Downtown Camera in Toronto got their first Nikkor Nikkor 35mm f/1.4G lens in stock today. No sings of shipments in the US or Europe yet.

In the US, Amazon canceled (again!) a bunch of 35mm f/1.4 pre-orders (see NR forum discussion):

Due to a lack of availability from our suppliers, we will not be able to obtain the following item(s) from your order:
“Nikon 35mm f/1.4G AF-S FX SWM Nikkor Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras”
We’ve cancelled the item(s) and apologize for the inconvenience. We must also apologize for the length of time it has taken us to reach this conclusion.  Until recently, we had still hoped to obtain these item(s) for you.

Other 35mm f/1.4 pre-orders got a new shipment date of December 17th. Go figure. From now on, if a product will be released more than 30 days after the announcement, I would suggest you pre-order it from Adorama or B&H.

Here are some samples on flickr taken with the new Nikon 35mm f/1.4 lens. Update: more samples on fredmiranda.com.

Some good news – the Nikon MB-D11 is currently in stock and Amazon will start shipping them in the next few days (update: B&H has it in stock):

Nikon files patent applications for an interchangeable sensor and 80-400mm f/4.6-5.4 lens (updated)

Nikon filed a patent application in Japan for a interchangeable/removable sensor. This patent application is not yet uploaded in the English language website of the Japanese Patent Office (they update this every few months) and the details are not clear, but it seems that the sensor is inserted into a guide rail and Nikon somehow have also addressed the dust issue (Google translation):

“The imaging unit is inserted into the body along the guide rails until the well-studied material is pressed from the back, the positioning is accurate. It seems that the dust reduction is also considered. The description in the patent literature, but seems to assume SLR conventional and a mirror reflex, to the presence of the reflector from there to the claims, I can say is intended to mirror-less. (Patent application 2010-258657, published on 11/11/2010, filled on 04/23/2009).

Patent application 20100284092 is for a Nikon 80-400mm f/4.6-5.4 lens. This design is slightly different that the previous patent for a 80-400mm lens:
