Time for another “what to expect” post for the CP+ show in Japan in February (12th-15th):
- Update: new special Nikon D810 version designed for deep-sky astrophotography with increased hydrogen-alfa sensitivity (not sure about that one)
- Nikon D7200 camera (very good chance, no firm announcement date for now).
- New Nikon 1 J5 mirrorless camera.
- New Nikon Coolpix cameras: P610, P900 AW130, S33, S3700, S7000, L840, S9900, L340. With the recent Nikon Coolpix A camera price drop, I will not be surprised if Nikon releases also a new APS-C compact model. One of the new Coolpix cameras could be with a new 1″ sensor.
- New Nikon 24mm f/1.8 lens (not sure about this one).
- New Nikon 1 lenses – all but one of the 1 Nikkor prototype lenses were already announced (the missing lens is the macro 1 Nikkor).
- The advanced Nikon DSLR firmware updates program should be made official as well.
Long term expectations/don’t hold your breath rumors:
- Full frame Nikon mirrorless camera (only based on a patent).
- Nikon is rumored to be working on a smaller Df-based camera – possible announcement at the end of 2015.
- If the new 50MP Canon EOS 5DS DSLR camera really has a Sony sensor, Nikon may also use it in the future D810 successor.
- New camera system with lens and sensor in one unit – something similar to Sony’s lens camera modules (I think Nikon will release something that connects to your smartphone).
- New Nikkor telephoto lenses with fluorite (FL) element – this is more of a long term goal and it will take few years until they replace all lenses mentioned.
- Other lens rumors (low probability): 200mm f/4, 16mm f/2.8, fast DX zoom,
- Update: new Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8 VR lens designed with video in mind and possibly with Phase Fresnel (PF) element (see patent) – the price is rumored to be $500 more than the current version ($1,886.95)
- Update: Nikon D5
