What’s your best guess, will we see an 80-400mm replacement this summer or prior to? Thanks

    • WoutK89

My guess, if they have it ready for release, we will see it with the D400 (DX).

      • Todd

That would be really sweet. D400 & “new” 80-400mm. Hope so!

80-400mm seems to be the most unnecessary lens in Nikkor lineup. Why update? What’s the main use for?

An f/4 tele prime + TC is a better choice if you really need reach, or the 70-300mm will do if you want a tele zoom.

      • scurvy hesh

IDK man. An updated 80-400 will outgun the 70-300 any day. I can guarantee that. I own the 300 F4 adn it a great lens, and while I really would like Nikon to make a Fixed 400 5.6 I doubt you will see it before they update the 80-400. What I would really like to see is a 500p Redux with an AFS motor. Now that is a bang up lens!

        • Zoot

          300 f4 with the TC1.4 gives a pretty impressive 420 f5.6. in my opinion.

Thom Hogan is of the opinion that the combination results in little or no image deterioration, when compared with the 300 f4 on its own.

Can anyone be sure that a new 80-400 will actually deliver 400?

    *** B&H fake review ***

B&H just deleted the HDTV review………see, NR can be very helpfull !!!!
Peter, thank you again for not having deleted my comments about my TV review that B&H wrongfully modified.

I will try to post my original review again on B&H website, maybe they learned something about trust and honesty….

    • no problem, I just deleted your French comments (and all others that were in a language different than English)

      • T.I.M

Here is my new review I just posted for that HDTV, we will see if this time B&H will post it without modifications.

I am professional photographer and I bought that TV to display my pictures (as I do on my 21″ Samsung monitors)
Warning: the TV will NOT DISPLAY any picture file that have been modified from the original (cropt, re-sized,etc…).
I contacted SONY, they told me that the TV can only diplay picture in “original camera” format.
So, if you’re looking for a TV that will give you beautifull giant slideshows, that’s not the one !
For everything else, movies, DVDs, internet, the TV is great !
I hope my review will help other photographers.
        Alex, Florida
(by the way, you can’t return a TV to B&H if the size is over 37″)

Coolpix announcement was correctly predicted, probability estimated at 99.99% by admin,

    • Doug

If i remember he said that the probability rate for the d800 to be announced on the 7th. was of 85%.

  • Kevin

Agree with above comment. Admin has been correct for the past few announcement . Im pretty confident d800 is coming feb 7

  • Jason

Any historic price curves available for D700? This can help understand when the D800 price will drop after its high intial price?

  • Just a few more days now.

Nikon posts “Extraordinary Losses Due to the Flooding in Thailand” (a loss of approximately $143.1 million)…

    • Anonymous

Now, they will compensate it by charging 700$ for a thin piece of glass in place of the AA filter.

    • Dr Motmot

Would their insurance cover lost sales?

      • There is insurance for lost revenues known as business interruption. Nikon probably did not have it. I know that it is frequently carried by restaurants and service businesses, but it might not be available for manufacturing.
