Only 100 Nikon D5 and D500 100th anniversary limited editions sets will be produced, price not yet released

I received some additional information on the new graphite/gunmetal gray Nikon D5 and D500 100th anniversary limited editions sets that were on display at the CP+ show in Japan: only 100 sets will be produced (I assume 100 from each set, including the 3 Nikkor sets from the pictures above). I was told that 20 will go to the UK. Pricing is not yet released.

Here are several related videos, mainly in Japanese:

DSLR vs. mirrorless cameras produced in the past four years (based on CIPA data)

Nikon-1-V3-mirrorless-camera
As a part of the discussion in my last post I went to CIPA’s website and got the numbers of units produced for DSLR and mirrorless cameras in the past four years and plugged them into a graph (blue: DSLR, green: mirrorless, click for larger view):

There are many different conclusions you can make out of this data, so I will let you do this in the comments section. Here are the detailed CIPA stats for the past 4 years:

No Nikon Rumors = No Nikon Announcements (NNR=NNA)

Nikon did not announce any new products at the 2017 CP+ show in Japan, which explains the lack of rumors in the past few months (again, don’t blame the messenger). This is the first CP+ show that I can remember where Nikon did not announce a single new product (except the new limited editions sets).

Just a reminder that for the 2017 CES Nikon only introduced the D5600 and Coolpix cameras to the US market. For the 2016 Photokina show we only saw the three rumored KeyMission cameras (already not selling well). With the exception of three nice lenses in early 2016 (105mm f/1.4, 19mm f/4 and 70-200mm f/2.8), Nikon did not have a major product announced since last January (D5 and D500). I do not count the D3400 and D5600 – the only upgrade was adding SnapBridge.

I received these pictures of new graphite/gunmetal gray color Nikon D5, D500 camera sets and three Nikkor lens sets designed for Nikon’s 100th anniversary that were on display at the CP+ show in Japan. There is no information on pricing or whether the sets will be available for sale at all (pictures credit: richardhaw.com).

More pictures from Twitter after the break:

The 2017 CP+ show starts tomorrow in Japan

The 2017 CP+ show starts tomorrow in Japan and I do not see any new products at the Nikon booth – see the pictures bellow (the last chance for Nikon to surprise us all and introduce a new product is actually tonight after they already announced only a new medical alliance deal last night):

Update: I miscalculated, there will not be an announcement tonight because it is already Thursday morning in Japan and the show will start in 1-2 hours.
