Nikon D7500 additional information (Japanese price and new battery)


The Japanese website Nokishita confirmed the upcoming announcement of the Nikon D7500 DSLR camera. Here is some additional information:

  • The D7500 will use a new EN-EL15a battery
  • The price of the D7500 in Japan will be ¥159,300 (around $1,400)
  • Update – new D7500 accessories to be announced: EH-5c power adapter and DK-28 eyepiece
  • Shipping is expected to start in June, 2017

→ Here is something we all missed on April Fools’ Day: the rare Nikon Apo Nikkor 1780mm lens was listed for sale on eBay for $4,300. Here is the description:

Designed for the military in the 70’s. One of the world’s rarest large format lenses is on sale here. The Nikon Apo Nikkor 1780mm was produced in the 1970s in an edition of 8 pieces. Some say it were only 6. The half went to the military.
Today, 4 photographers
worldwide are known to own and use this lens. All ULF photographers, mostly for alternative processes and gigantic formats. This lens has an unbelieveable picture circle of 2310mm – 2 meters and 31 cm !!!!! There is no Nikon D760 or D850 (yet)

Some websites are reporting that Nikon will introduce new D760 and D850 cameras this month. I am pretty sure this will not happen. I already mentioned that as far as I know there is no D850 camera, even though the D850 model makes sense after the D750/D7500/D5/D500. To the best of my knowledge, the D810 replacement will be called D820 and not D850. Regarding the D750 replacement – I do not expect anything to happen anytime soon (maybe in late 2017 or in 2018).

The first leaked picture of the Nikon D7500 camera is courtesy of Nokishita. The official announcement will be next week on April 11th or the 12th. Shipping will start in June. The rumored specifications can be found here.

Getting closer to a Nikon announcement


I already reported that I expect new products to be announced in the 2nd or 3rd week of April. We are entering this period next week and there are already rumors floating around that we may see new products being introduced as early as next week (the one date I heard is April 11th but I am still not 100% sure). Nikon is already in their new financial year and I believe they have a lot of catching up to do. Nikon to announce replacements for the Coolpix AW130 and P900 cameras (125x zoom!)


Here is the promised update on the upcoming four Nikon cameras:

  • One of the expected four cameras will be a replacement for the Nikon Coolpix P900 and it will feature a monster 125x zoom or 24-3000mm equivalent (the current P900 “only” has a 83x zoom)
  • The second camera will be a replacement for the Nikon Coolpix AW130
  • Only one of the four cameras will a DSLR: the Nikon D7500
  • Still now 100% sure about the fourth camera – most likely it will be another Coolpix model
