Nikon DSLR cameras dominate four out of five “Best for any budget” buying guides at Dpreview

The “dying” Nikon DSLR cameras dominate the top spots at four out of five “Best for any budget” buying guides at Dpreview. 12 different cameras were considered for each category. The only exception where Nikon did not get the top spot was the under $500 category where the Nikon 1 J5 was #6 and the Nikon D3400 was #7:

  • Best camera under $1,000: Nikon D5600 ($646.95 after $50 off)
  • Best camera under $1,500: Nikon D7500 ($1,246.95)
  • Best camera under $2,000: Nikon D750 ($1,496.95 with free grip)
  • Best camera over $2,000: Nikon D850 ($3,296.95, tie with Sony A7RIII)

Nikon D850 review

This Nikon D850 camera review is by Andy Zofka (annazofka.com | Facebook):

I’m Andy – half of Anna Zofka Photography wedding photography duo, photography tutor and a complete photography geek 😉

I got the D850 only a couple of days after its UK launch (early September) and I’ve been using it as my main camera since. Before I got the D850 I have been using mainly Nikon D750 for the last 2 years, as well as the Sony A7RII and the Nikon D5, so I’ll be making some comparisons, especially to the D750. Those of you looking to upgrade their D750 may find these bits particularly helpful. On the other hand I have no experience in using D800 or D810, so can’t really draw any comparisons to these cameras.

Still receiving conflicting information on a potential Nikon D5s announcement in January

The title says it all – I am still receiving conflicting information on a potential Nikon D5s announcement in January. Historically, Nikon has been introducing their new top pro model every two years during the CES show in early January. Given all the latest developments, I am still not sure if this will be the case in 2018. Maybe this post will trigger some more tips from people in the know (tips can be submitted anonymously here).

In terms of lenses, a new 200-400 lens is expected to be announced in the next few months (it could actually be 180-400mm). A new macro lens is also rumored (could be a replacement for the current 60mm f/2.8).
