Several Nikkor DX lenses discontinued


A reader sent me this message regarding several discontinued Nikkor DX lenses (thanks ZoetMB):

I was checking to see if any of the Nikon lenses that were out-of-stock at B&H a few weeks ago had come back into stock (none had) and I noticed that the following two lenses are marked “Currently Unavailable”, not “Backordered” or “More on the way”:

So then I checked the Nikon Japan site and they weren’t there. So while sometimes lenses hang around for years after Nikon stops selling them in Japan, this could still be a sign that they’re discontinued or going to soon be. So then I decided to cross-check every lens, and I found all of the following (in addition to the ones above) are no longer on the Japan website:

Tamron released firmware updates to make 3 more lenses compatible with the Nikon Z7 camera


Tamron released new firmware updates that will make the following three Tamron lenses compatible with the Nikon Z7 camera and FTZ adapter:

On November 16 Tamron already announced firmware updates for the following three lenses:

The lens firmware can be updated with the separately sold TAP-in Console.

In case you missed it: Nikon Z-mount can support lenses faster than f/0.95


Black Friday is almost over and we can now get back to our regular coverage. The French website Mizuwari published their interview with Nicolas Gillet from Nikon France from the 2018 Photo Show. There is nothing really new to report here – the same topics have been discussed over and over during the past few months in other numerous interviews, including the claim that the Nikon Z mount can accept lenses faster than the already announced Z-Noct-Nikkor 58mm f/0.95 lens:

“For the record, Nikon’s optical engineers have calculated that the Z mount can accept lenses up to f / 0.65”
