Is anyone currently under NDA from Nikon?

Interesting discussion on the NDA agreement. Another related question: if you are under NDA, can you tell/announce publicly that you are under NDA for a specific company without mentioning any details? I just want to hear a confirmation that someone somewhere is currently under NDA from Nikon. That will give us hope and we need that today.

Is Canon really fighting to get an extension to the NDA in order to announce after Nikon?

According to this blog – yes. It seems that Canon’s announcement was scheduled for September 17 and now they are trying to change that. Are they pushing the release date to September 23rd in order to announce after Nikon (September 18th)?
Has anyone ever heard of extension of a NDA? Is that legally possible?

September 18th or November 8th (updated)

Post in dpreview:

“Just got an e-mail from NPS Holland to mark 8 November in my agenda for a special event that hasn’t has an equal”

Anyone else getting such emails? Can someone forward me the actual text? Just fyi – November 8th is a Saturday.

Another post at camerarumors:

“Meanwhile, Nikon will make like Sarah Palin and steal press coverage the day after Canon’s announcement.  Look for a BIG Nikon announcement on September 18th.”

I am skeptical.

MX Lenses

This is the message I received:
“So i DID WRITE ALL THE BOXES. I can make mabe a picture next wheek when I am on the night work schedule, not now. So you will belief me
So here is all 6 six boxes:
AF-S MX Nikkor 24 f4.0G
AF-S MX Nikkor 45 f2.8G
AF-S MX NIkkor 85 f2.8G
AF-S MX Nikkor 135 f2.0G ED
AF-S MX Nikkor 200 F2.8G ED
AF-S MX Nikkor 65-180 f2.8G ED IF”
This discussion has been going on in the past few days (our regular readers will certainly know what I am talking about). This is not one of our trusted sources, so I don’t stand behind this rumor. It could be a hoax. If the boxes for those lenses are already existing, I would expect them at Photokina which makes the above offer of pictures next week useless (Photokina is next week from September 23rd till September 28th).
Going back few post you will find this rumor: “You should carefully assess the upcoming newly to be released (prime) lenses and realize they cover more than strictly needed.” MX again?

Thom Hogan said…

Thom Hogan is back from his trip in Alaska. He may not be happy about this, but I will again carefully read every single word in his latest post on his web site:
  • “Meanwhile the A900 becomes the megapixel bargain (at least for a short period of time)” – is there something coming? Maybe Canon? Sony will be glorious only for a short period of time? Good!
  • “In the Micro 4/3 arena, I suspect we’ll see a Coolpix APS response in 2009”. Good!
  • “In the high megapixel count arena, it appears that Nikon’s response is currently targeted for early 2009 (WPPI and PMA), though there’s still an outside chance that it could be preannounced/leaked as early as Photokina.” He mentioned D3x and D800 as potential successors with the new Sony sensor. Not so good!
  • I expect that high megapixel camera to be highly modular“. Did I hear the word “modular” again? Very good!
Disclaimer: this is Thom Hogan’s own opinion – it may or may not be based on actual facts. Use at you own risk.

Nikon D60 “Black Gold” still a mystery

Our last guess about the Nikon D60 “Black Gold” got busted today by an email from someone who works for Ritz Camera:
“Okay, Here’s Ritz promo kit procedure for those who are convinced the German photo is all Black Gold will be. When a promo kit is created, we get the big outer boxes as a separate shipment. The boxes do have a SKU, but it’s a store supply code. We then pack the kits ourselves with regular stock merchandise. The code I found begins in 54, which is lenses, cameras, and large accessories like motor drives. Note that a lot of stores don’t even use the boxes for the obvious reason- they’re obnoxiously large, and the customer only sees them once they’ve decided on their purchase and we bring them out of the lockbox.

To the guy who claims he’s seen the German kit ad in a Ritz- Wrong. All stores will usually get the next one or two future flyer ads to prepare for them, and occasionally they get left on a counter accidentally for a customer to see, so I don’t doubt he could have seen an unreleased ad. However, The current and future D60 promo kit has been going on off and on since the camera’s release, and contains the following: Body, 18-55 VR, Two Nikon School DVD’s, and a black Nikon gadget bag. It’s not the bag seen in the photo, and thats a fact because I spent 15 minutes this Wednesday unpacking two cases of the damn things.”
The search for Black Gold continues…
