Nikon UK prices – cannot back order for the old price

Update – and another price increase report: “Interfoto in Norway will increase their prices on January 15th.”

Several readers informed me today that resellers across the UK already have the new pricing. The worst part is that buyers cannot back order any item for the old price:

“I was at Jacobs in London today, and they said they couldn’t back order stuff for the same price since they got a memo today form Nikon that prices will go up on the 12th of January due to the pound devaluation.”

From what I heard Amazon UK still hasn’t increase their prices. Several Nikon products are already out of stock, but you can still back order them for the old price – if they have what you need, pull the trigger now.

Nikon UK to raise prices next week

The initial report was that Nikon prices are going up this Spring. Now it seems that this may happen earlier,  way earlier… like in 5 days, on January 12, 2009 (Monday). The source is an email sent from a major shop in the UK. There is also similar thread on flickr.

If you are planning on buying any new equipment in the UK, I suggest you do it this weekend.

Here is the history of this rumor- it has been going on for a while.

Update: report from a reader: “D700 at www.robertwhite.co.uk just jumped up from 1331 to 1505 pounds (excluding VAT).”

Two new Nikon books

The Nikon’s Hands-on Guide to Creative Lighting DVD was a hit (unfortunately in the US only). Here is some very educational behind the scene footage:

(source)

Now, we also have a printed guide (by a different author) which hopefully will be available world wide:

The Nikon Creative Lighting System: Using the SB-600, SB-800, SB-900, and R1C1 Flashes

The same author (Mike Hagen) will soon also release the Nikon Capture NX 2 After the Shoot

Nikon D90s and Nikon D65

Last week someone posted a picture of Nikon D90s to one of the posts (obviously fake, but still entertaining – if they had gone with D900 instead, it would look much better):

Update: sorry the picture got removed from the original website – it was a photoshopped full frame D90 – you did not miss anything.

I also got some specs for a potential Nikon D65 (nothing reliable at that point, but we all know something similar is coming soon):

– 12mp CMOS
– 3fps
– 9 AF-points CAM 850, 1 Cross type
– 720p video
– Live view
– Dust reduction
– PMA 2009 release

I do find the name D65 plausible – there was already a Nikon F65 model.
