Nikon AF-S 35mm f/1.4 (FX)

Update: this rumor is busted – the third lens was the manual 35mm f/1.4 AIS lens. What some readers still don’t get is that this site is based on a comunity effort – many times I have questions and ask for help – I do not know everything.

I received this email today:

“Today I wanted to buy a Nikon 35 1.8 Dx in a store in Austria, they looked after it in the computer and found 3 Nikkor 35mm lenses: 35mm f235mm f1.8 dx and a 35mm f1.4.
I ddn´t know that nikon made a 1.4 version of this lens…”

Why I find this interesting? Because last year, we had the same situation few weeks before the Nikon AF-s 50mm f/1.4 was released – see this translation from German and this post: for some reason the inventories in some stores got updated with the new models shortly before the official release.

If anyone in Austria or Germany is working in a camera store – can you please check what kind of Nikon 35 mm lenses are listed in the computer? Thanks.

Nikon D60 Second Edition

B&H has a new D60 model on their web site: Nikon D60 SE CAMERA w/18-55 VR LENS (BLK/GOLD). SE like in Second Edition? Is this the “pimp” D60 Black Gold Edition that was released by Ritz few months ago? If that’s the case, why they don’t have it in stock yet? Note also that the model number NID60SEK is different that the regular D60 (NID601855).

In the same article (quote from Nikon’s UK general manager Simon Coleman in an interview at PMA): “Nikon plans to launch new DSLRs later this year”, so we are expecting more than one DSLR despite the economic situation.
  • Nikon UK camera gear sales have soared 23% in the past year (source).
  • Tamron to raise prices on March 20th: 5%-11%.

  • Another new GPS product: di-GPS Pro L – it comes now with 8MB built-in logger. The logger allows you to log your trip and see it on your computer (google earth, for instance). In addition it power consumption reduced from ~50-60mA to ~36mA):

AF-S Zoom-NIKKOR 17-35mm f/2.8D IF-ED comes back in Europe

nikkor17-35From a reader in Europe (working in a photo store):

“Yesterday we received an email from Nikon headquarters that the AF-S Zoom-NIKKOR 17-35mm f/2.8D IF-ED will be available again at least here in Europe starting at the end of March.”

The rumor was that this lens was discontinued and was not present on many of the latest price lists. Not sure what is going on – maybe Nikon is just pushing its final stock.

How can Pentax do it?

Price increases, economic worries… but not for everyone in the DSLR industry. If you have missed the news from few weeks ago, Pentax reduced their prices (Pentax K20DPentax K200D models) and today they announced plans to revive its long-awaited 645 Digital medium format camera:

pentax645

Are they nuts or we are all being taken for a ride? Don’t they face the same challenges like Nikon? Only time will tell and I am sure you will have an opinion too. FYI at PMA Pentax introduced a new lens (Pentax DA15mm F4 ED AL) and 3 p&s cameras.
