Nikon announcement this week

A quick update: the March 14 date is the actual Nikkor AF-S 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR release date for Japan. I expect the shipping date for the two new Coolpix cameras also to be before the end of March. This means that the official announcement should be this week – probably on Wednesday or Thursday (for […]

Nikon Coolpix P330 and Coolpix A to be announced soon

The new Nikon compact camera with DX sensor will most likely be called Coolpix A and will be priced at ¥120,000 (around $1,200, US prices will be lower). Two different colors will be available: silver and black. In addition, Nikon will also announce the rumored Coolpix P310 replacement – the P330 will be priced around ¥45,000. Both models are scheduled to be […]

Nikon’s high-end compact APS-C sensor camera coming in 1-2 weeks

The rumored compact camera with DX sized sensor will be announced in the next 1-2 weeks. The entire confusion last week came from the fact that Nikon did announce a new Coolpix S3500 camera for the European market. Since I was told to expect the D7100 and a new compact camera, I assumed that the high-end […]

Nikon’s 18mm f/2.8 mirrorless DX lens patent

I want to mention again patent application 20110080659 filed by Nikon on September 30th, 2010 for a 18mm f/2.8 DX lens (28mm equivalent) because I think this could be the lens used in their upcoming high-end APS-C compact camera. As I already mentioned back in 2011 when I covered this patent, this lens is not designed for F-mount – the […]

Nikon to announce a high end compact camera: 16MP DX sensor, fixed 28mm f/2.8 lens, Expeed 2 processor

I received a very short and crypted tip that Nikon will announce a new compact camera with 16.2 effective megapixels DX-sized CMOS sensor, fixed 28mm f/2.8 (or maybe even f/2.0) lens and EXPEED 2 image processing engine. This could very well be the camera that will be announced this week and I seriously doubt that the D7000 replacement will be introduced as well.

Nikon’s announcement next week could also be for a new high-end Coolpix camera

After talking to several sources, nobody could confirm the announcement of the D7000 replacement next week. The lack of leaked images and detailed specifications also makes me think that either Nikon has gone completely underground with the new camera, or the D7100 will just not happen next week.
