My name is Giovanni Mocchetti aka John MK and I’m a 20 years old photographer based in Milan, Italy. My work concentrates on fashion and events, but sometimes I have the chance to travel and to explore new fascinating places and cultures.

The plan was to spend 10 days close to Hurghada, Egypt to relax and have a nice journey with some friends. As photographer this was my chance to photograph outside the hotel. We booked two different unique trips and I immediately was excited about what I would see with my eyes.

The first one was a quite long ride with the quad through the Egyptian desert. There we would eventually meet local people (bedouins) in a small village. That experience was actually something I have dreamed for a while. I didn’t just want to take a simple portrait of the person I had in the front, I wanted to interact and to communicate. With some gestures and a few arabic words I could take this portrait of this little guy, who seemed always pleased to let me take a picture of him:

The Nikon D810a camera for astrophotography will start shipping on May 28th

Nikon Japan announced the shipping date for the D810a DSLR designed for astrophotography: May 28th,2015.

The camera was announced on February 6th and is currently available for pre-order at AmazonB&HAdoramaJessops and WEX.

Nikon’s 2015 financial results are out: sales down 15%, income down 12%

Nikon published their financial results for the year (ended on March 31, 2015). Here are the Imaging business details:

Sales and income declined 15% and 12% respectively, year on year due to delayed market recovery in China and Europe. Operating income ratio posted 9.7%, exceeding the previous year ratio (9.4%) and the revised forecast (9.0%). Digital camera ― interchangeable lens type and interchangeable lens did not reach the forecasted volume and sales fell short of achieving the revised forecast. But, operating income posted better-than-forecasted result.

Have you ever wondered if you’re getting the most out of Nikon’s AF system?

Sure, AF modes may not generate the kind of anxiety that keeps you up till the wee hours of the morning, but it is something to consider. After all, we put a lot of time and effort into our photographs and I doubt you’ll ever run across a photographer who wouldn’t appreciate a higher keeper rate.

However, Nikon’s AF can be a double-edged sword. There are a myriad of options that cover just about any AF situation you may find yourself struggling with. However, knowing which combination of settings to select can sometimes be tougher than cracking the combination at Fort Knox.

I mean, when should you switch from Single Point AF to Dynamic 9, 21, or 51 AF? For that matter, should you be using Dynamic AF or Group AF – or switching between the two? What about 3D AF?
