Egypt through my eyes by Giovanni A. Mocchetti (Facebook | 500px | Instagram):

My name is Giovanni Mocchetti aka John MK and I’m a 20 years old photographer based in Milan, Italy. My work concentrates on fashion and events, but sometimes I have the chance to travel and to explore new fascinating places and cultures.

The plan was to spend 10 days close to Hurghada, Egypt to relax and have a nice journey with some friends. As photographer this was my chance to photograph outside the hotel. We booked two different unique trips and I immediately was excited about what I would see with my eyes.

The first one was a quite long ride with the quad through the Egyptian desert. There we would eventually meet local people (bedouins) in a small village. That experience was actually something I have dreamed for a while. I didn’t just want to take a simple portrait of the person I had in the front, I wanted to interact and to communicate. With some gestures and a few arabic words I could take this portrait of this little guy, who seemed always pleased to let me take a picture of him:

Nikon AF modes explained

“Grizzly Cub” “Hovering Egret”
“Dramatic Landing” “Hard Turn”
Nikon AF modes explained” is a new article by Steve Perry (website | YouTube | Facebook). You can check also his previous [NR] posts here:

Have you ever wondered if you’re getting the most out of Nikon’s AF system?

Sure, AF modes may not generate the kind of anxiety that keeps you up till the wee hours of the morning, but it is something to consider. After all, we put a lot of time and effort into our photographs and I doubt you’ll ever run across a photographer who wouldn’t appreciate a higher keeper rate.

However, Nikon’s AF can be a double-edged sword. There are a myriad of options that cover just about any AF situation you may find yourself struggling with. However, knowing which combination of settings to select can sometimes be tougher than cracking the combination at Fort Knox.

I mean, when should you switch from Single Point AF to Dynamic 9, 21, or 51 AF? For that matter, should you be using Dynamic AF or Group AF – or switching between the two? What about 3D AF?

What to expect next from Nikon

Nikon Rumors
Time for another “what to expect” post:

Nikon-Coolpix-logo
→ Nikon Coolpix camera with a large sensor:

  • Nikon is working on new Coolpix cameras with a large sensor. Most likely there will be two different models.
  • On several occasions in the past Nikon’s reps mentioned that they are still committed to their mirrorless and Coolpix product lines and they still see potential future in 4K video and advanced compact cameras.
  • I am still not sure of the size of the sensor – I am receiving rumors for everything between 1″ to APS-C and full frame. Most likely there will be one model with 1″ sensor and another with a DX sensor (replacement for the Coolpix A, which is already listed as discontinued). In a recent interview, Nikon’s executive confirmed that a new compact camera with 1″ sensor is coming in the future:

Q: Any new Coolpix A? Any plans to respond to Canon and Sony’s 1-inch sensor fixed-lens compact cameras?
A: Sony’s 1-inch CSC is definitely very successful. We will have a competing product in the future.

→ Nikon D5: the D5 is rumored to have 15 fps continuous shooting rate. The official announcement will most likely be at the next CES show in January 2016.
