No more Nikon D3?

“Nikon will introduce soon a high res FF. Today I had a chat with a friend of mine that owns the biggest local photo retailer and he told me that … all photo retailers here cannot place orders for D3 anymore.”

What? Can someone who owns a shop confirm that? Hard to believe.

Nikon D90 – in the 9 top tech flops list

I don’t take this seriously since the #1 top tech flop is the new Google G1 phone, the MacBook Air is #3, and Blue-Ray is #4. Nikon D90 is #6.

I believe all of those technologies will prevail and will be with us for a while.

Fake Nikon D400 pictures – body & box

I received those 2 pictures today with the text “Nikon D400 is new 24.4 MP body will be released on
November 20th.”
The email was sent from outside the US (do not want to mention the country, just in case this turns out to be real).

The original EXIF data (included after each picture) indicates that those snapshots were taken with a camera phone Nokia N70 on July 25, 2008 (?). I doubt that a camera phone will have such a debt of field – take a look at  the text on the box. In addition the box says Mac OS 10.4.x, we are now up to 10.5.5. Adobe Photoshop CS2 was used as well?

I am 99% sure those are fake, but I will still publish them for the 1% chance that they may be real. If nothing else, I found those entertaining. They did a good job on the “4” – see the D40 label here.

Nikon SB-900 Firmware update coming soon

According to a Nikon rep, we should soon see a new firmware update for the SB-900 flash unit. The new firmware is suppose to have a fix for the temperature cut-off problem. This problem was reported on several forums already – basically the thermal cut-off is set too low and the flash can be cut-off when you need it most.

Political ads on NikonRumors

Update: Google explains how the political ads got to this blog.

Several readers emailed me about a political ad that was running on NR – “Yes on 8” which would eliminate same-sex couples’ right to marry in California.

Contextual advertising means that ads should be pushed based on specific keywords found on a web page. My guess is that somewhere on NR there is a text with the keywords “yes”, “on” and “8” which triggered that ad (this post may trigger the ad again – I still do not have a link in order to block it).

I do not have a way to select which ads are running on NR. I can only block certain sites, so if you see a banner that doesn’t belong here, please sent me an email with the link.

To be fair and to balance things out, I will create my own ad:

VOTE NO ON 8

Now everyone should be happy!

In order to prevent this to happen in the future, I have included a survey which should help advertisers to push the correct ads to NikonRumors. The survey will be available for a while in the top navigation bar. I would appreciate it if you fill it out – it takes only a minute.

On the positive site, Nikon is also advertising on NR:

But then, almost everyone here is a Nikon fan and we may not be the best target audience for Nikon marketing.

I am sorry if I have offended someone – this was not my intend.

Don’t forget to vote!
