Nikon D90, D700 out of stock at BestBuy’s district warehouse

I would expected the Nikon D90 to be out of stock, but why the D700? Both bodies are listed as 0 inventory in one of the district warehouses, which serves around 400-600 BestBuy stores. The out of stock date for the D90 is September 7th, 2010 and for the D700 is August 3, 2010:

This is the fix for the Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8 light leak

SLRclub has a thread about the Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8 light leak and it seems that this is the official fix from Nikon – they are just using a wider AF scale plate that will provide a better protection from an outside light source:

Tamron SP 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di VC USD lens for Nikon mount announced again

Tamron’s press releases are a little tricky: back in March, they announced the “development” of a new Tamron SP 70-300mm F/4-5.6 Di VC USD (Model A005) lens, which will be available also for Nikon mount. Today Tamron announced “the release” of that same lens. The price is $449.99 minus $50 rebate @ Amazon (here is the rebate form). This lens should be a direct competition to the Nikon 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED IF AF-S VR which sells for over $500. If you shoot with a DX camera and are on the market for a similar focal length, you may want to wait till next week for the rumored Nikkor 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6 ED VR DX lens which should be priced around $350.

Nikon D3100 listed in Best Buy inventory system

D3100

Nikon D3100 is already listed in Best Buy’s inventory system. The SKU is 1222817, the description reads “Nikon D3100 DSLR w/ 18-55mm v”, availability: 9/18/2010. No other information is provided other than the box dimensions. BestBuy does not create SKUs based on speculation or rumors, however price and availability date is always subject to change.

There is still no listing for the Nikon D90 replacement and that makes sense since the official announcement will be a month after the D3100. The D3100 is expected to be announced next week and usually new products are available in stores a month after their release.

Weekly Nikon related news/links

I am late with the weekly Nikon links – there was not much going on last week:

  • Sony is rumored to release two new sensors in early 2011 – ExmorHD 24MP and 30+MP with “very good High-ISO performance up to 12.800 ISO”. Maybe Nikon will follow (I have no reliable information on this topic, this is just FYI).
