Nikon D5100 currently being shipped to Canada

Multiple sources confirmed that the Nikon D5100 is currently being shipped in bulk to Canada. I still don’t have detailed specs, except the new swivel display leaked by Nikon Korea. The oficial announcement should be on April 4th or the second week of April.

Nikon instant rebates coming to an end?

Amazon has ended the Nikon instant rebate in the US. The program was initially set to expire on March 26th, but I guess Amazon pulled the plug earlier (before and after screenshot):

Nikon rebates @Amazon before

Nikon rebates @Amazon after

The Nikon rebates at B&H will end in less than 24 hours (B&H is closing online ordering every Friday evening):

The Nikon instant rebate program started on March 1st, 2010 in the US. I believe there is a very low chance of the rebate program being extended again, given the recent price increases, fall of the JPY vs. the USD and the fact that Nikon’s fiscal year ends on March 31st.

Nikon prices hit MSRP in the US

Nikon prices continue to rise in the US since my last post a week ago:

Nikon D300s body only

Nikon D700 body only

Nikon 70-200 f/2.8 VRII lens

Nikon 14-24 f/2.8 lens

Some of Nikon’s lenses are hard to find anyway, it can only get worse in the next few months given the situation in Japan. You can save some money with the latest Nikon rebates if you buy a camera and a lens at the same time. The other option is to buy grey market/imported Nikon products. B&H actually offers 1 year warranty on grey market/imported products:

Nikon event in Taipei tomorrow

Update: the event in Taipei was for the already announced Coolpix cameras – see this report for more info.

Nikon has scheduled an event in Taipei for tomorrow (March 22nd, 2011). The only detail I have is the text 新品體驗會 (translation: “the experience of new models” or “an experience of new stuff“). The event will take a place in one of the luxurious hotels in Taipei and may not be for a new product announcement. Has anyone received an invitation?

Nikon Malaysia is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a series of events from March 31st till April 3rd, 2011.

They are also promising a surprise contest on March 31st:

“We have a special contest planned for you. Do come back on 31 March 2011 to find out what’s the surprise!”
