Nikon rangefinder camera expected to sell for over 140,000 EUR at Westlicht Photographica Auction

The next Westlicht Photographica auction will take place on May 28th in Vienna, Austria. Here are some of the highlights in the Nikon section:

Nikon I No. 60924 (1948)

The earliest known surviving production Nikon in the world! Nikon started in March,1948 to assemble (serial number 60922), this is one of two cameras made in April, 1948 and the 3rd of all Nikon cameras ever produced. It comes with the matching lens (Nikkor 2/5cm no. 70811) and is still in fantastic original condition. Published in: ‘The Complete Nikon Rangefinder System’ by Robert R. Rotoloni (pgs 51-52), ex-Tad Sato collection.

Yes, this Nikon D3 is still working

The next few weeks will be slow on rumors and I have scheduled some new guest posts and giveaways. In the mean time enjoy this:

This “muddy” Nikon D3 picture was published on flickr. I contacted the photographer and this is his story:

“That was from one of my avian photography sorties. I use a floating blind to take photos of water birds but the water level that day was very low so I had to crawl it out in the mud to get the photos that I want. I was constantly pouring water on the LCD to take away the mud so I can view my photos. The lens installed on the body is a Nikkor 500 f/4 VR. After the shoot I cleaned the camera and placed it in my dry cabinet. It still works flawlessly: all seals worked, not a single grime inside the camera. Here are the shots from that day

Nikon D5100 and ME-1 US MSRP prices

The US MSRP for the Nikon D5100 body only will be $899, the kit MSRP price with the 18-55mm VR lens will be $999. I have no info on the 18-105mm lens kit combo. The official announcement should happen around midnight tonight US Eastern time (+/- 1 hour). Shortly after I will have all pre-order options available online.

Canadian Nikon D5100 and ME-1 press releases and prices

The official Canadian press releases for the Nikon D5100 DSLR camera and the ME-1 microphone are currently out on digitalhomethoughts.com. The MSRP price of the Nikon D5100 kit with a 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR lens will be 899.95 CAD and should be available in late April. The Nikon ME-1 microphone will cost 159.95 CAD and will be available in May, 2011.
