Today B&H discounted several grey market Nikon lenses, probably as a result of the new Nikon price policy that will take effect on October 16th. The best deal seems to be the Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8G lens for $1,689 ($310.95 discount, regular price of US version is $1,799.00).

Next Nikon rebate program will include again pro DSLRs and lenses

The next Nikon instant rebate program will start on October 16th, 2011 and will again include pro lenses like the 24-70 f/2.8 and 70-200 f/2.8. You will be eligible for instant savings if you purchase a lens and a new Nikon D7000, D300s, D700 or D3s body. Few months ago Nikon removed all pro level equipment from their current rebate program and now it seems that they are bringing them back. October 16th is also the date when Nikon will start enforcing their new pricing policy in the US.

Nikon D800 specs recap

This week I had three separate posts on the rumored Nikon D800 specs. Here is a quick recap.

This is the list of “confirmed” specs for the Nikon D800 (there are some new updates). My confidence on those is above 90%:

  • The name will be Nikon D800
  • 36MP sensor
  • 100% viewfinder coverage
  • Improved AF with face recognition – the D800 will still have 51 points AF point
  • Dual memory card slots (still not sure if they will be SD, CF or both)
  • USB 3.0
  • ISO range: 100 – 6400, ISO LO @ 50 and  ISO HI-2 @ 25600
  • The screen will be larger than 3 inches
  • The D800 will not have built-in GPS
  • Expeed 3 processor
  • There will be two different D800 versions/models, one with the antialiasing filter removed

This is the list of not confirmed specs from the initial D800 post (Google translation):

Clarification on my last Nikon price increase post

Several readers have emailed me about my post from Friday on the upcoming Nikon price increase starting on October 16th. I just want to clarify that Nikon will not be raising their prices. They will just start enforcing their MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) policy which will lead to a price increase for certain products in some online retailers in the US. The idea is to have identical prices on Nikon equipment in your local store and on Amazon for example.

For example, the Nikon D3100 kit is listed for $699.95 on Nikon USA. The MAP on the D3100 kit is $599. Even after the current $50 instant rebate, Amazon is selling it for $533 (same price with B&H after you add it to your cart, Adorama sells it for $599).
