The first unconfirmed reports about a Nikon press conference on April 19th, 2012 started to come in. The expected announcement is for the Nikon D3200 and maybe even the already leaked Nikkor AF-S 18-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED DX VR lens.

Nikon D800 now in stock on Amazon Germany

I am surprised, but I guess they did not have many pre-orders: the Nikon D800 is currently in stock on Amazon.de.

Update: today Adorama and B&H started shipping Nikon D800 cameras to non-NPS pre-orders in the US.

If you live in Norway, you better pre-order the Nikon D800 before the upcoming price increase on April 1st

As previously suspected the Nikon D800 price in Norway will be going up according to this banner posted on the Norwegian online store fotovideo.no. Nikon D800 pre-orders placed before April 1st will be eligible for the current price. The D4 was not mentioned, but I believe its price will go up as well.

Guest post: How to build an awesome studio on a budget

How to build an awesome studio on a budget by Cary Jordan

Have you ever wanted a great studio, but always felt it was beyond your budget? Or that a studio that could unleash your creativity, while producing professional images was only available to the select few that could afford the high cost? The truth is, you don’t have to break the bank to build a great studio; a good studio can be built for less than the price of a current Nikon pro-sumer full-frame DSLR. It’s especially wonderful when you can utilize some of the gear you likely already own, like speedlights.

Just because you’re on a budget, doesn’t mean you can’t produce top-notch imagery. My goal with this article is to show you how to build a studio on a budget – you’ll see what equipment we used, how we used it and where to buy it as well as offer sample images taken in the budget studio. Our budget studio offers something for everybody – it has the ability to be configured for portrait photography, product photography and videography as well as being totally mobile for on-location shoots. This studio is very versatile and the fact that it’s cheap (only in price), makes it all the better.

As you grow and your photography grows, the studio can grow as well. This studio is more than a “starter kit”, it’s a fully functional set-up that you can be proud of, as well as be proud of the images you’ll produce in it.

Nikon D800 issues

Listed below are several Nikon D800 issues reported by readers. If you have experienced any other problems with your new camera, please describe them them in the comments section.

  • You can see the first issue in the above two images (click for larger view) – the Nikon D800 LCD screen has a green cast on some images. Several people emailed me about that. The actual files are fine and the problem seems to be with the LCD screen. I got something similar when I was playing with the camera, but I think mine was related to the WB/shutter selection. This discussion on flickr suggests that the green cast could be fixed by adjusting the LCD monitor hue – see page 52 of the D800 manual (images credit: Benjamin Brolet).
  • Check your CF and SD card compatibility (page 434 of the D800 manual). There could be issues with cheaper/older memory cards – see this post.
