Nikon 1 AW1 vs. J3 specifications comparison

Nikon-1-AW1-camera-design-drawing
The Nikon 1 AW1 has the same technical specifications as the Nikon 1 J3 with the exception of the newly added GPS functionality (different size and weight as well). Basically for $300 more than the J3 you are getting a waterproof camera and lens (no VR) kit with GPS capabilities and I think this is a pretty good deal considering that the WP-N2 underwater housing for the J3 costs between $530-$730 (you can go down up to 130ft/40m with the housing compared to 49ft/15m with the AW1). Here is the detailed AW1/J3 comparison:

Nikon AW1 rugged/underwater camera to be announced in 2 hours

Nikon-1-AW1-camera
Just few clues two hours before the official announcement – the above screenshot was taken from photoclubalpha.com – it seems that they have schedule a post to go live at 5:00am GMT (midnight EST). If you go to the actual link (http://www.dphotoexpert.com/2013/09/19/nikons-aw1-is-set-to-make-a-splash/) you will notice that the URL contains the words “Nikon’s AW1 is set to make a splash“. This pretty much confirms the previous rumors that a new underwater Nikon 1 camera will be announced today. FYI: the Nikon Coolpix rugged cameras also carry the AW model name.

Update: see this post for more info on the new Nikon 1 AW1 camera.
