Update: here is the first picture of the lens.

In addition to the D5300 (see updated specs), Nikon will also announce the AF-S Nikkor 58mm f/1.4G lens I mentioned yesterday. The new lens will have nano coating and excellent sharpness and micro contrast even wide open.

This is the Nikon D5300 *UPDATED*

It seems that in few hours Nikon will announce the D5300 DSLR camera. The above picture comes from Digicame-info which usually posts leaked images shortly before the official announcement. Here again are the rumored Nikon D5300 specifications:

  • 24MP
  • 39 AF points (9 cross points)
  • EXPEED 4
  • Built-in Wi-Fi
  • Built-in GPS

Update – few more D5300 specs:

  • Same sensor as in the D7100 (no OLPF)
  • 5 fps (same as the D5200)
  • Full HD video recording at 60p/50p
  • No AA filter
  • 3.2″ vari-angle LCD monitor

Update: the posts referring the AF-S Nikkor 58mm f/1.4G lens were removed from Pixelistes website shortly after my post.

The admin of the French forum Pixelistes mentioned few days ago that he held in his hands a new full frame Nikon lens that will be announced in the next few days. In another post later last week he reported that the new lens will be a Nikkor 58mm f/1.4 that would weigh 385g and will have 9 elements in 6 groups with a 9-blade diaphragm. The price is supposed to be € 1,789 (around $2,400) and shipping should start on October 31th.

Nikon sues Polaroid/Sakar for mirrorless camera design patent and trade dress infringement



Do you remember the Android based Polaroid IM1836 interchangeable lens camera that looked very much like the Nikon 1 J1/J2 models? Even the 30-110mm lens looked identical to the Nikkor 1 30-110mm f/3.8-5.6. Nikon also thinks that Sakar/Polaroid ripped their Nikon 1 camera design and filed today a lawsuit in the U.S. for design patent and trade dress infringement. Here is the full text of the Nikon’s news release:

Nikon Camera Control Pro 2.15.0 released with D610 support

The Sigma 24-105mm f/4 DG OS HSM is one of the rumored new DSLR lenses to be announced in 2014 and yesterday we got the first picture of the new lens. The basic specs are: 82mm filter, weigh of 885 grams, lens design: 19 elements in 14 groups (for comparison the Nikon 24-120mm f/4 weights 710g and has 17 elements in 13 groups).

I just received information that the Sigma 24-105mm f/4 DG OS HSM lens is already listed on Sigma’s website:
