A reader just sent me this note from the French Chasseur d’Images (Google translation) suggesting that two major Nikon announcements have been postponed as a result of the flooding in Thailand: “Two big major launches, expected in the coming weeks, have been cancelled / postponed. Some recently announced cameras are delayed due to lack of some material.”
October 26th is 9 days away and so far I have not received any information on any scheduled Nikon press events for next week. It will be highly unusual for Nikon to announce the D800 without any major press gathering – maybe they have chosen this path to prevent any leaks.
There are rumors that the new 1D full frame camera announced on October 18th. In the past, Canon and Nikon always announced new products few weeks (sometimes days) apart and it seems this time Canon will have one week advantage. We are looking really good for a potential Nikon D800 announcement on October 26th.

This could be a coincidence, but I aways liked coincidences: “The Event” 2011 Nikon AIPP (Australian Institute of Professional Photography) will take place in Hilton Hotel Adelaide, Australia from October 23rd – 26th, 2011. I am starting to like those dates.
The rumor is that Nikon will hold a product presentation in Marrakech on October 24-26, 2011. Some major European dealers were invited. October 26th was also the rumored announcement date for the Nikon D800. There will be at least three other products announced with the D800.
