Not a surprise: the Nikon Z9 sensor is made by Sony (IMX609AQJ)

Techinsights reports that the Nikon Z9 camera image sensor (IMX609AQJ) is made by Sony Semiconductor (a different company from Sony):

“This report presents a device essentials folder (DEF) of the Sony IMX609AQJ full frame 45.7 MP stacked back-illuminated CMOS image sensor from the Nikon Z9 mirrorless camera.”

This news is not really a surprise unless you are an insecure Sony fanboy who needs constant justification for your life choices – almost all Nikon sensors were made by Sony in the past (see this post for a full list) and so are the sensors of most other cameras. Of course, previous reports that Sony will no longer provide their top sensors to competitors were 100% wrong and the result of Sony’s marketing department.
