What to expect from Nikon for Photokina

A quick recap on what to expect from Nikon for Photokina. First, an updated list of Nikon D750 specifications:

  • 24.3MP full frame sensor (99% sure)
  • EXPEED 4 imaging processor (some rumors suggested dual EXPEED 4 processor, but I doubt it)
  • 51 AF points (some rumors suggested a new 79 points AF system, but I don’t think Nikon will do it)
  • 8fps (I’ve seen different reports on this – it could also be 6.5 fps)
  • TTL exposure metering using a 91k pixels RGB sensor – same as in the D800/D800E/D810 (some rumors suggested a new 300k pixels RGB sensor)
  • Tilting LCD screen (99% sure)
  • XQD memory card support (not sure about that and again – I doubt it)
  • Wi-Fi support (I doubt that one too)
  • New OVF facial recognition feature (this is a possibility)
  • Priced around $2,500 (the current Nikon FX camera price points are – D610: $1,896.95, Df: $2,746.95, D810: $3,296.95, D4s: $6,496.95)
  • There will be a big marketing push to show the video recording capabilities of the new D750 (this already started with the D810) – I’ve heard also about 4k video recording, but I am not sure
  • Nikon will market the D750 as an “action” camera (the promotional material will involve skaters – probably high-speed action shots and video)
  • The official announcement will be on September 11th (or September 10th around midnight EST)
  • I believe Nikon will continue to sell the D610 after the D750 announcement
  • I have to mention this again because I still get emails with questions – all of those D750 pictures are mockups/fake:

Nikon SB-500 Speedlight flash – I feel pretty confident that thus new flash will be announced.

Nikkor 20mm f/1.8G lens – this rumor did not come from one of my sources, but I still think there is a very good chance for this lens to be announced (Nikon already filed a 20mm f/1.8 lens patent back in 2012). There could also be a second tele lens, but again – I am not sure.

I seriously doubt we will see a new DX DSLR camera at Photokina. There will be some new compacts which could include the rumored Coolpix P8000.

Nikon will probably also show a new lens roadmap for the Nikon 1 system – they announced all but one of the 1 Nikkor prototype lenses that were on display when the system was first introduced:
