Greetings NR readers!  My name is Jason and I have been a Hawaii based photographer for the past 6 years.  A month ago I decided to see an airshow as I haven’t been to one in many years.  Since the local photo gear rental shop I frequent just got their delivery of the Nikon 200-500mm f/5.6E lens I was very keen on testing out this lens on fast but predictable moving targets.  I was also interested in testing out the lens since I was seriously considering it as a future lens purchase.

In mid October I lead a bird watching trip, 10 days around Costa Rica, photographing birds. I used a Nikon D7200 with the Nikkor 300mm E PF ED VR and a Nikkor TC-14E III.  All pictures were taken handheld

The camera

The Nikon D7200 has 24.2 megapixels in DX crop and native ISO 100-25600, very convenient for the challenging light in the Tropical forests. It also has a 1.3x crop that allows you to shoot 7 fps, which turns your lens 2 times “longer”, so roughly the lens with the TC that are 420mm end up being equivalent to 840mm at 15.4 megapixels (the D810 in DX is 15.4 megapixels).

Firmware update version 1.3 for the Nikon Coolpix P900 camera now available

Nikon released firmware version 1.3 for the Coolpix P900 camera that fixes the issue with some Points of Interest (POI) in Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan not being displaying correctly.

A reader informed me yesterday that Amazon received a new P900 shipment that was user to fulfill existing pre-orders. Third party resellers (with US warranty) currently have arriving time between November 18-23 for the P900:
