My name is Christophe Anagnostopoulos and I’ve been reading Nikon Rumors everyday for a long time now!

I’m very happy to present you my first personal night sky time-lapse project named “Keep Looking Up” which I filmed for over a year using mainly Nikon cameras and lenses.

I began filming on May 2016 until September 2017 with a lot of effort, as my main job at that period was demanding in terms of time and I only had one or two days per month to film. Nikon D750 in -75°F

THE FROZEN HELL – Nikon D750 with Nikkor 20mm f/1.8 lens in -75°F temperatures

On Saturday, January 6th, 2018, my friend Nathan and I climbed New York’s seconds highest mountain, Algonquin Peak (5,115 ft) in the Adirondack Mountains to experience some of the coldest temperatures on earth. On this day, most of America was frozen over by the coldest weather of the season yet. The ambient temperature on the top of the mountain was -36°F with a 45 mile per hour wind, making it -75°F on the summit. It was by far the coldest experience I have ever had in my life. When something is hot enough, if you touch it, you can be burned easily. That was the same thing with this weather except the opposite. It was so cold that not only did I get wind burns on my face (I had goggles), but I burned my hand from touching a metal shovel that was connected to my backpack.

A quick update on the rumored Nikon full-frame mirrorless camera Z-mount

A quick update on my last post about the rumored new full-frame mirrorless Z-mount from Nikon: the measurements I reported caused some confusion in the comments section – my understanding is that the external diameter of 49mm is the actual mount opening, the entire external diameter of the mount is going to be 65.4mm (just received this update):

  • Mount diameter (opening): 49mm
  • Total diameter of mount: 65.4mm
  • Flange focal distance: 16mm

The top graph by Eric Calabros shows a comparison between Nikon Z-mount and Sony E-mount: the Z-mount has more than 6 degrees advantage over E-mount (important for wide angle and fast lenses).

Why did Nikon reserve a big booth for the 2018 NAB show?

This year Nikon has booked a rather large booth for the 2018 NAB show that will take place in April (7th-12th). Nikon’s booth is in the middle of the Central Hall and is almost as big as other video-heavy-hitters like JVC, Fuji and Arri. Just a reminder that Nikon was not part of the 2016 and 2017 NAB shows.

The 2018 BCN camera rankings are out (Nikon sales in Japan: cameras up, lenses down)
