Iceland from above

After two great photo-vacations in 2010 I decided to visit Iceland again in 2017. The Northern Lights activity is, for still unknown reason, always higher around Equinoxes.

All ready and packed I flew from Munich to Reykjavik. It has been an overnight flight, so always pick a window seat on the right side. Boom! At the half time of the flight, a green glow appeared on the horizon. Seeing the Northern Lights from an Airplane is something special. Photographing it too, because it’s hard to use a tripod in an airplane – I had to shoot it handheld.

Next rumored Nikon D850 announcement date: August 24th


The next rumored Nikon D850 announcement date is August 24th (±1 day depending on your time zone). Shipping is expected to start in mid-September.

As some of [NR] readers already noticed, yesterday Nikon Japan posted the D850 teaser again on Facebook and Instagram with a link to the Nikon Fan Meeting that will take place on August 26th indicating that the camera will be on display at that event:

New Voigtlander Ultron 40mm f/2 SL II S lens for Nikon F-mount announced


Today Cosina announced a new Voigtlander Ultron 40mm f/2 SL II S manual focusing lens for Nikon F-mount that will replace the previous version from 2012. The original Ultron 40mm f/2 Aspherical SL lens was announced back in 2002 (see eBay listings). In the new version Cosina changed the helicoid ring, while keeping the same optical design. As a result, the minimum focusing distance was reduced to 25 cm.

The US price of the lens is not yet announced (check B&H website).

Getting closer to Nikon D850 announcement


Just a quick update on the Nikon D850 announcement date – the August 16th date was suggested from the leaked Chinese presentation but as I already reported last week:


I never received a confirmation for the exact date when the D850 will be made official, but we are definitely getting close to the official announcement. Nikon US already has a placeholder in their press release section – I am pretty sure this is for the D850:
