I just noticed the 55-200 has a really steep discount, 58% off. The only other $200 rebates are for lenses approaching $2000 or more.

It’s not really a sought-after lens, Nikon has been shipping them for years bundled with low-end bodies, a la ‘costco deals.’

      • Roger S

Funny because it’s a good DX lens for the money, but perhaps so many potential users already got one bundled with their camera that there’s not much additional demand.

    • I loaned mine to a “friend”. She didn’t return it and I never really felt like looking her up and asking for it back.

      • TheInfinityPoint

Haha it’s funny how it’s all relative. To us pros a ~$200 lens is nothing compared to ~$1000-3000 lenses, but to casual shooters who mostly use it on their kids it’s a big deal (assuming middle class, etc. etc.).

Yeah, I remember starting in photography and thinking the difference between spending $120 or $150 for a lens was a big deal. I’ve seen medium format shooters call $3000 DSLRs expendable and treat them like toys compared to their $50k kit – would love to be in that situation!

    Peter:
typo in the 55-200mm: it is a f/4-5.6 lens, not 4.5

  • She’s using it, for sure. She bats from the other side of the plate.

Wish I hadn’t just bought the 14-24…$200 back would be nice

  • ZoetMB

You know, that’s actually a good point. How come no one ever designed a camera that was a mirror image of the controls on top, so left-handed people could release the shutter with their left hand?

    • MB

I think Exakta and Mamiya did back in the days…

    • TurtleCat

If lefties are 10% of the population that would be too small to really cater to for mass production.

    • monocolor

I’d like to see a modular body with separate right and left handgrips/controls. swappable on the fly.. from one to the other.

  • BG

Is there a 14-24/2.8 replacement coming? Otherwise I might be tempted…

    • I have not heard anything about a replacement yet.

  • SGG

For N-time Nikon are trying to sell the inventory of all their “crappy” lenses (probably without the 14-24). Come one, NIkon, It won’t hurt you if you sell more of your new lenses – like the 28mm 1.4, 70-200 E, or 105E…

    • FountainHead

The 24 is great, but agreed… no primes past 50mm… wtf…

    • Glad to see this comment, I first saw that list and my brain instantly said pfff these are all old models. The new plastic fantastic UWA DX zoom isn’t in there sadly, I wonder what kind of margins they get on a that one.

“The above deals are set to expire on November 17th.”

… just in time for the Black Friday deals to start.

Peter the 55-200 f/4-5.6G Amazon link goes to the 55-300.

Peter: This guy is a trollbot . This is the second time I’ve seen posts by him that are identical to a previous post by someone else — in this case a post by SGG a little ways up the thread. I probably should have pointed this out after the first one. I’ve also down-voted him, but am not sure how else to notify you when I’ve noticed things like this.

      • took care of it, thanks

  • Not quite what I was alluding to, but..
