TowerJazz Q1 2018 report: “We are moving according to our plans with the leading DSLR camera supplier”

Here is a quote from the TowerJazz Q1 2018 earnings call transcript where company’s executives talk again about the foundry’s image sensor business and their ongoing relationship with a “leading DSLR camera supplier“:

“We are moving according to our plans with the leading DSLR camera supplier and we will start soon as second even more ambitious project, which includes stacked backside illuminated wafers for this market. This will continue to position us as a leading foundry for high-end photography applications. All these exciting activities will bear fruits in the coming two to three years in a steady high volume, high margin production as the world-leading provider of CMOS sensors for high-end applications.”

There have been some speculations in the past that the sensor inside the Nikon D850 is manufactured by TowerJazz, but this was never confirmed. TowerJazz is working on a new full frame sensor with global shutter which can be linked to the upcoming Nikon mirrorless camera (unless TowerJazz is working with Canon or Ricoh/Pentax and not with Nikon):

Slide copying with the Nikon ES-1, BR-5 adapters and the Nikkor Micro AF-S 105mm f/2.8 ED VR lens

I have used slide films for over four decades. I have been wanting to copy some of the important slides and tried copying and scanning with no satisfying results. After a serious hunt, I came across the Nikon slide copying attachment ES-1. But the problem with it is that it has been designed exclusively for use with Micro Nikkor AF 60mm f/2.8 D lens or with Micro Nikkor AF 55mm f/2.8 with three extension tubes to make 1:1 magnification.

Since I already have a Micro Nikkor AF-S 105mm f/2.8 ED VR lens, I did not want to invest in another macro lens. So, I started experimenting by copying the slides in a crude manner and found out that I can copy the 35mm slides with my 105mm lens with a certain amount of extension in front of the lens.

        
   
So, I ventured for the Nikon ES-1 slide copying adapter and Nikon BR-5 adapter ring. It wasn’t sufficient and I still had to push the magnification a little farther away from the lens. So, I bought a cheap non-auto Chinese extension tube and a Nikon BR-2A reverse ring and Nikon BR-3 mount adapter ring (see picture above).

The new Sigma 70mm f/2.8 DG Macro Art full frame lens will not be available for Nikon F-mount

Today Sigma announced the price and availability of their new Sigma 70mm f/2.8 DG Macro Art full frame lens that will be available for Sigma, Canon and Sony E mounts but not for Nikon F-mount. The reason is because Sigma is using a new autofocus motor (similar to the Nikon AF-P lenses).
