Continuous coverage of the Nikon mirrorless camera


Disqus is already messed up in the last post due to the increased amount of traffic and the large number of comments on NikonRumors, so I am opening a new thread here in order to continue our conversation.

As Cass Cassim already mentioned, Nikon got smarter and now they mask the camera used in the latest video teaser and show us only the area we are supposed to see (they also no longer provide the high-resolution video that was used for some of the previous edits):

New Nikon mirrorless camera leak from China – is it a mockup or a real picture?


There is a new set of comparison pictures of the Nikon mirrorless camera coming from China (they were first posted on the Xitek Forum and later reposted on Weibo – thanks Jeff). Nikon released their first quarter financial results


Today Nikon released their financial results for the first quarter of the year ending in March, 2019. The headline from Business Insider is: “Nikon Q1 Profit Climbs, Revenues Down; Lifts FY19 Earnings View” –  here is a quick recap:

  • Profit climbed 83.8% to 16.34 billion yen from 8.89 billion yen last year.
  • Earnings per share were 41.10 yen, up from 22.37 yen a year ago.
  • Operating profit surged 53% to 19 billion yen from last year’s 12.42 billion yen.
  • Revenue is down 2% to 166.91 billion yen from prior year’s 170.32 billion yen.
  • For the 2019 fiscal year, Nikon now expects net profit of 53 billion yen and operating profit of 74 billion yen, higher than the previous estimate of 50 billion yen and 70 billion yen, respectively.

Sony vs. Nikon vs. Canon – for any “meaningful” (not really meaningful at all if you ask me) camera comparison between brands, you need to add “camera” in the search term, otherwise you will get all Sony TVs and Canon printers in the mix (even this is still not accurate because of the Sony and Canon video cameras that are included in the search terms):
