Nikon D850 listed as discontinued at B&H (*UPDATED*)

Last night B&H Photo sent out emails to waiting customers indicating that the Nikon D850 is now discontinued:


The Nikon D850 is completely removed from the B&H online store (updater: the D850 is listed again). Adorama lists the D850 on backorder. Amazon has a few D850 in stock but they are from third party resellers or gray market. The official Nikon Japan website does not list the Nikon D850 as discontinued.

UPDATE: I can now confirm that the Nikon D850 is not discontinued. As I already mentioned, B&H automatically marks products as discontinued if they are out of stock for a long time:

I’m a snap-shooter (Knipser in german) since the 1990s. During the time, I shoot from film up to digital cameras with different brands.

The story:

Some time ago a cry of horror went through the country —

— Ahhh, Ohhh, Uhhh – one Card-Slot only.

Hm – maybe that is scary to someone, but it was not frightening me. Since I am a snap-shooter, most of my camera bodies have had one storage element only. I mostly use small storage because impact by an accident is not very much. It is no problem with that one card-slot thing to me, at all. But – then Nikon managed to get Wi-Fi to be useful and SnapBridge became better and better.

I’am using a NAS and Smart-Devices – could I use this for On-Demand- or Online-Backup? I don’t use some Cloud because it is expensive to me and free storage is mostly very limited, but I’m running a NAS. I have an Idea.

Mhh, lets see how to put things together …

Nikon registered a new battery charger MH-33 in Korea

Nokishita reports that Nikon registered a new battery charger MH-33 in Korea:


It is difficult to say if this charger will be for the upcoming Nikon Z9 camera (I don’t think so). The Nikon MH-32 model for example was designed for the Nikon Z50 and Z fc. My guess is that the new MH-33 wil be for the next entry level mirrorless camera (Nikon Z30?). All Nikon MH battery charger models can be found here.

Saved the Company through Photography

2020 has been the most challenging year, we as a world community have faced in our lifetimes. My company, D’Argenta, had a particularly hard year, as most of our clients are tourists, so no tourism, no sales, no flights, no exports.

We entered world of art 45 years ago. We make 24K gold and .999 silver finish sculptures, mostly of wildlife, human form, aztec and mayan art, home decor objects like table centerpieces, vases and candle holders that make for great decor and special gifts.

On October 2019, we had a website that barely sold anything, so I took the initiative of redesigning it, the further I worked on the project, the more apparent it became that the main reason for not being able to sell our art pieces was the lack of high quality photographs. Even before we had the new pictures we decided to launch the new website on February 2020. We didn’t have anything to loose anyway.

Nikon Q1 financial results are out and they look very good

Today Nikon released their financial results for the first quarter of the year ending March 2022 and the numbers are better than expected (click for larger view):

  • Increase in revenue in all segments
  • Imaging Products Business: increase ¥24.9B in revenue and ¥17.5B in profit
  • Significant recovery in sales unit of digital cameras
  • Strong mirrorless camera sales, revenues nearly doubled
  • Nikon also revised the revenue and profit upward


Here is the relevant data for the Imaging Products Business:

  • Q1 YoY: Increased revenue and operating profit
  • Mirrorless and high-priced interchangeable lenses have enjoyed strong sales on recovery in demand for cameras.
  • Higher ASP on further progress in shift to models for pro/hobbyists. Revenues nearly doubled, due in part to the weaker yen.
  • Q1 operating profit improved significantly YoY due to subdued sales expenses and deferred partial expenses to Q2 and beyond.
