The Nikon NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S is the first mirrorless Z-mount lens to be discontinued

The Nikon NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S was the first mirrorless Z-mount lens to be replaced by a new Mark II version back in August. Asobinet now reports that the old/original version is already listed as discontinued in stores in Japan:

  • Map Camera: Discontinued products, in stock
  • Yodobashi Camera: Discontinued

In the US, both lenses are currently in stock with a price difference of $450 (the new Mark II lens is now in stock at B&H, Erhardt, WEX, and Camera Canada):

It is worth noting that not a single Nikon Z mirrorless camera is currently listed as discontinued on the official Nikon website – the Nikon NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S will be the first entry.

Comparison of both versions can be found here:

The Nikon ZR camera can record continuously for up to 125 minutes without overheating

The Nikon ZR camera (order: B&HWEX |Erhardt) can record continuously for up to 125 minutes in R3D NE 6K 59.94p without overheating, with auto temperature cutout set to [High], at 25°C/77°F, paired with an external power source according to Nikon’s official specifications:

This duration is for a single, uninterrupted take. The camera’s body is engineered for efficient passive cooling, including a chassis optimized for heat dissipation, which helps it outperform many competitors in its class (e.g., Sony FX3 or Canon R5 C in similar scenarios). Unlike some cinema cameras with active cooling (e.g., the RED Komodo with fans), the ZR relies on a passive design, which also keeps it lightweight:

If overheating occurs, the camera displays progressive warnings (yellow for caution, red for imminent shutdown).
