Update: Rumor BUSTED!

We will start following a different approach when a reader submits us a “rumor picture”. With every picture from now on we will post a poll. There are a lot of smart people reading this blog and I am sure the poll will correctly identify the fakes from the real deal.

Update: what type of lens is this anyway? The rumor is: 24-120 mm (FX?).

Anyone working for B&H? We need a price check for SB-900 please (eyewitness report)

A reader sent me this email:

“I was interested in buying a sb-800 to compliment my recent D300 purchase, however a friend of mine who works for B&H cautioned me that “Nikon may be releasing a new flash soon,” due to the fact that he saw an entry in their computer under a store code prefix specific to Nikon flash units, but he had never seen that specific variation of the code before.  I’m not sure what this means and he didn’t know anything more than what he told me, but I figured it couldn’t hurt to pass it along.”
Anyone working for B&H? Take a peek at the computer and report back please (we will not report any names, email addresses, etc.)

German magazine ProfiFoto is also waiting on a big secret on July 1st

Gähnende Leere im Briefkasten, verstaubte Regale beim Zeitschriftenhändler – keine aktuelle Ausgabe 7-8 der ProfiFoto weit und breit! Warum? Ganz einfach: Aufgrund aktueller Produktneuheiten, die noch so geheim sind, dass ProfiFoto noch nicht einmal andeuten darf, in welchem Bereich und von welchem Hersteller die neuen Produkte kommen werden, wurde der Erstveröffentlichungstermin der ProfiFoto auf den 1. Eyewitness report: Nikon SB-900

A reader sent me the following email:

“I know a nikon ex-employee who imports goods directly from nikon japan to the far east, she said she has ordered 50 SB-900 to be delivered next month.“
I guess the same reader send the same email to few other sites. The only difference is that some blog(s) Publish his real name (oops!). Now you judge about the authenticity of that rumor. I am suspicious that if something is announced on July 1st, it will be available the same month for delivery. I also don’t believe that Nikon will let anyone pre-order equipment before the press release.
Any opinions?

Eyewitness report: Nikon D80 – warehouse out of stock

From someone that works in a major US authorized dealer:

“Our warehouse is totally out of D80’s, which hasn’t happened for a very, very long time. Take that as you will.”

I take that and the previous post as a clear indication the Nikon D90 is coming soon (they may also call it Nikon D80x, but I doubt that).
