Two new Nikon books
The Nikon’s Hands-on Guide to Creative Lighting DVD was a hit (unfortunately in the US only). Here is some very educational behind the scene footage:
(source)
Now, we also have a printed guide (by a different author) which hopefully will be available world wide:
The Nikon Creative Lighting System: Using the SB-600, SB-800, SB-900, and R1C1 Flashes
The same author (Mike Hagen) will soon also release the Nikon Capture NX 2 After the Shoot
Nikon D90s and Nikon D65
Last week someone posted a picture of Nikon D90s to one of the posts (obviously fake, but still entertaining – if they had gone with D900 instead, it would look much better):
Update: sorry the picture got removed from the original website – it was a photoshopped full frame D90 – you did not miss anything.I also got some specs for a potential Nikon D65 (nothing reliable at that point, but we all know something similar is coming soon):
– 12mp CMOS
– 3fps
– 9 AF-points CAM 850, 1 Cross type
– 720p video
– Live view
– Dust reduction
– PMA 2009 release
I do find the name D65 plausible – there was already a Nikon F65 model.

CES 2009
CES 2009 starts in three days and I don’t have a single rumor for a new Nikon product (Nikon does have a booth on CES). I guess we will not be seeing any D40/D60 updates, not even a CoolPix. In the past, as we got closer to the official announcement, there was always a specific online chatter and a series of events that are just not happening now. I hope I am wrong!

Nikon prices in UK – up 10-15% in Spring
In the trail of Nikon price increases around the world, the UK seems to be next in line. This is an email Park Cameras UK sent to one of its costumers:
Hi and thank you for your e-mail.
PC Email
======
The prices are due to go up, we don’t know the exact percentages or date but know it is soon and 10-15% would not be unrealistic. I would expect us to have to pass on the price increases.
If you have any further queries then please do not hesitate to contact us.
Kind Regards, Gui

First review of Nikon GP-1 – looks good
Several readers asked me about the Nikon GP-1 since it is still not available for sale online. Here is a review I came across – it seems that the GPS is working very well. Read the whole (short) review here:
“I have to admit, I’m impressed by the GP-1’s speed of acquisition as well as ability. I’m sitting at my desk in the corner of our office and while the other GPS units I have cannot find a signal, the GP-1 has blinking green light in 5secs, a solid green light within 15secs.”
