Nikon SDK

This is just a follow up on the previous post: the Nikon Software Development Kit (SDK) that was used for the D700 video capture can be downloaded @ https://sdk.nikonimaging.com/apply/

If you are a software developer, you can probably create some cool stuff with it – drop me a line if you do.

Nikon news recap

Here are the Nikon related news from the past few days:

  • In the next 4 days Chase Jarvis will provide a play-by-play coverage of his first assignment with the Nikon D3x – you can follow him here. You know that this is going to be good!
  • At the same time the price of the Nikon D3x is falling – Amazon is selling it for $7,839.93 (reseller: OneCall). The price of the D3x seems to be falling in Canada as well (source). I am confused.
  • Nikon price increase coming in the Netherlands as well (source).
  • Adobe Systems on Friday issued near-final release candidate versions of Lightroom 2.3 and the Camera Raw 5.3 Photoshop plug-in, software that will support the Nikon D3x (source).
  • Nikon D3 Awarded iF Product Design Award (source).
  • You can download the Nikon D3 Professional Technical Guide here.
  • Nikon D3 cut in half can be seen here.
  • Walimex Flash Diffuser for Nikon SB-500DX/SB-800DX – probably a typo, I would not trust a site with .biz extension.

Nikon PDK-1 – let the power be with you

Update: I guess I missed this product release – it has been available in Europe for few months now (still not available in the US or Canada).

A reader emailed me this link – a new product from Nikon currently only available in Germany and few other European countries. The PDK-1 is basically a power kit: it includes the MB-D10 battery grip, BL-3 adapter, EN-EL4a battery and MH-21 charger (for use with D300 or D700). No word for now if this package will be available in other countries. Price in Europe: EUR 381 (around USD 492).

Nikon F6 still in production according to Nikon Germany

There was a rumor a month ago that Nikon will stop producing the F6 model. According to this forum entry, Nikon Germany made an official statement (no link provided) that the Nikon F6 will stay in production.

Quick Nikon F6 inventory check: B&H is out of stock, Adorama does not have it listed at all on their website (maybe I missed it?) and Amazon is selling it for $3,737.99. Interesting.

Possible Nikon D400 spy shot

Update: I got some more details from the people that took that picture (see the comments section) – it was taken on January 20th in Washington DC during the inauguration of now president Barack Obama. So, we know at least the picture is legit.

As already mentioned in the post, this could be the D300 (the Google translation was really bad this time):

I cannot see any mic holes. The only difference I can find between the above pictures and the current D300 is the chrome ring on the mode dial. Here is a D300 picture – the ring looks different:
