Nikon files patents for 10-30mm and 7-13mm lens for mirrorless cameras

Nikon filed a patent application 20110116172 (Japan, US versions) for a 10-30mm f/3.3-5.6 and 7-13mm f/3.5-5.6 lenses:

Nikon 10-30mm f/3.3-5.6

Nikon 10-30mm f/3.3-5.6

Nikon 7-13mm f/3.5-5.6

Are those two lenses for Nikon’s mirrorless solution? Almost: the image height of both lenses is 7.96mm (sensor diagonal of 15.92mm) which suggests a crop factor of 2.8x. Previous patents and rumors indicated a crop factor of 2.5-2.6x based on a sensor with a diagonal of 17mm. Nikon is either obfuscating their patents or they have different mirrorless solutions in terms of sensor size (even though the difference is only about 1mm).

Nikon AF-S 50mm f/1.8G lens now shipping in the US

The Nikkor AF-S 50mm f/1.8G lens is now being shipped in the US. I know for sure that at least one dealer (Acephoto) will be getting it in the next few days. This time Nikon started shipping the lens before the previously announced US release date. Shipments in Europe already started 10 days ago.

Offline for few days

For the next two months, [NR] headquarter will be temporary moved to an undisclosed location in Europe and will operate on European time. In the next few days I will have limited Internet connectivity and will probably be offline. In the mean time, feel free to use the [NR] forum.

For those of you who are new to [NR] and are eager to know what’s next for Nikon, I have to remind you that the rumor mill always comes to a halt after an official announcement. I will continue to publish only information I feel comfortable with, instead of filing the site with wild guesses and worthless speculations. I can publish rumors like this all day long, but if you want serious and reliable stuff, sit tight and enjoy the ride. I will continue to post other interesting Nikon related topics and guest posts until I start receiving some good “intelligence” again. I expect things to pick up again at the end of June.

Thanks for being a reader.
