Nikon released firmware update 1.1 for the Nikon Coolpix P7100 compact camera. This comes as a surprise to me, since the P7100 has been discontinued (and replaced by the P7700) for a while and Nikon is not big on releasing firmware updates for older products. Here is the list of modifications:

In addition to the 18–140mm f/3.5-5.6G DX lens, in few hours Nikon will also announce a new SB-300 flash.
The 18–140mm f/3.5-5.6G lens will have 17 elements in 12 groups, 4 stops VR, weight: 490g.
The Nikon SB-300 flash will have tiltable head (120°) and guide number of 18.

Nikon will soon announce a new NIKKOR AF-S DX 18–140mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR lens. Expect the official news in the next 2-3 weeks (could be as early as tomorrow). Obviously this new 18–140mm is intended to be sold as a kit lens. The big question is: kit lens to what? The D3200 and D5200 are pretty new for a replacement and I doubt this will be the kit lens for the D400. Stay tuned for more info. It has begun.

Dpreview published an interview with Sandor Barna (Vice President and General Manager at Aptina) where he discussed the future of compact cameras and big sensors. He mentioned that Aptina is working with “their current customers” (Nikon?) and new compact cameras with 1″ sensor are expected to be announced at the beginning of next year:
Several websites are already reporting the official announcement from Sigma: the new mount conversion service will start on September 2nd, 2013 and it will be limited to all Sigma Global Vision lenses. In addition, the company also announced that all Sigma products bought after July 1st, 2013 will be granted a new 4 years warranty.
