The latest Nikon patents

Nikon filed a patent in Japan for 70-300mm f/4-5.6 lens designed for a camera with 1″ sensor (Nikon 1)/ The FX equivalent of this lens will be 190-810mm. The lens design consists of 20 elements in 13 groups including 6 ED elements.

Another patent describes a new type of adapter what will add image stabilization (VR) to existing lenses while maintaining AF.

Nikon Black Friday deals

Nikon will have some new instant rebates for Black Friday that will include many high-end lenses (the current rebate program offers mainly low-end lenses). The savings will be similar to the rebates offered back in September. You still will have to buy a DSLR body in order to qualify. There is a very good chance the new Nikon Df will be part of the upcoming rebate program, the problem is that shipment will most likely be delayed by at least few weeks. I will publish the new Nikon Black Friday deals on November 24th (Sunday) and they will be valid till November 30th.

Best Buy will also run some specials – for example Nikon D7000 with the new 18-140mm lens for $799.99 (original price: $1599.99). You can see all Black Friday Best Buy deals here.

The price of a refurbished Nikon D600 is now down to $1,399.95, while a refurbished D7100 is now selling for $849.99.

Sigma will release firmware update to fix AF issues with the Nikon D5300

Sigma reported AF issues when using their lenses with the Nikon D5300 camera. A new firmware update to address those problems will be released tomorrow. If your Sigma lens is not compatible with the USB dock, you will have to contact your nearest Sigma service center in order to get the update.

Nikon D3300 coming soon as well?

A anonymous tipster sent me this picture of what appears to be a new Nikon D3300 DSLR camera. I have no other information and I cannot tell if the picture is real. I do not expect the D3300 to be announced this year. For comparison, here is a the D3200:

→ If you are using a Nikon D4 with any of the SanDisk 32GB Extreme Pro CF 160MB/s memory cards and a Sony XQD card in the other slot, you will get an error message. Apparently SanDisk and Nikon are aware of the issue (see here and here)
