Nikon announcement in the next two days: new Nikon 1 rugged camera

Nikon-1-logo
I received some information that Nikon will be having a world-wide announcement this Thursday, September 19th (the official press release should be out around midnight tomorrow, Wednesday EST). The new product was described to me as a “Nikon 1 rugged camera”. This is most likely the previously rumored underwater camera that will be part of the Nikon 1 product line, but I am not sure yet if it will be marketed as “rugged” or “underwater” model.

Nikon USA removed D600 and D5100 from their MAP list

Nikon-D600-bw-top
As of September 14th Nikon USA removed the D600 and D5100 cameras from their MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) list. This means that US dealers can now sell those two models at any price they wish and will not be punished for that. Nikon is trying to clean inventory for the upcoming D610 and D5300 cameras. The D5100 is already officially listed as discontinued. I expect the price of new D600 DSLRs to drop down in the next few days.

Guest post: Smoke Photography

Smoke #14 copy

Smoke #69 copy
This guest post on smoke photography is by Paul Bonnichsen:

Fall photography brings photographers out in droves, but as winter approaches the majority of photographers pack their cameras away until spring. I somewhat fell into this pattern for many years except that my commercial photography continues year around. My life and photography changed two years ago when I viewed my first smoke photo on the internet. The beauty I saw in smoke reminded me of my first glimpse inside lower Antelope Canyon.
